Top point getters between 2005 (Crosby's first season)-2018.
Having this conversation with my sister and to tell you the truth I find a handful of players to be simply overrated. A quick scan of individual success I have it somewhat like this:
Crosby
Ovi
Malkin
Kane
McDavid
Price
Karlesson
Bergeron
I think guys like Stamkos and Tavares are quite overrated. Now I know that awards are not everything but I think the Islanders would be overpaying him if they went anything over 10.5 million a year. Tavares has not won anything and Stammer has a couple rockets which seems like ages ago, yet these two are consistently brought up as some of the best in the NHL.

My Top 10 off the cuff ... not really researching, etc.:
Crosby
Ovechkin
Karlsson
Malkin
Kane
Toews
Price
Doughty
Lundqvist
McDavid
I have McDavid ahead of Bergeron due to his major accomplishments early in his career and apparent trajectory.
Bergeron and Kopitar are in the very next group, ahead of Tavares, Stamkos, Giroux, Benn, etc. ... due to their magnificent 200 foot games and Cups.
Then there's Keith, Kucherov, Weber, etc. Some great players.
Tavares is like Dionne and Sundin - the lone superstar surrounded by little talent.
Stamkos is still feasting off name recognition - he hasn't been the same since the injuries.
Ovie by 6pts with 139 more games...
I think you've already answered your question in the title. If it's defined as CROSBY's generation... kinda tells you something right there

To me there's no debate for the top 5.
Crosby
Ovechkin
Malkin
Karlsson
Toews
from there, i could make an argument for a bunch of players for a bunch of reasons.
I guess I should throw Jumbo Joe, Iginla and the Sedins somewhere on the list. These guys played quite a few years before as well though. Need to cut it off somewhere because clearly Jagar should be on the list otherwise.

I thought about Jagr too but would include him in a list for the 90s since he did most of his damage pre-Crosby.
Sedins, Iginla, Jumbo Joe are good calls too. Definitely in my 6-10 range. What tips the scales for me with Toews are his Cups and Olympic medals and everything else in between. The guy is a winner.
Surprised no mention of Getzlaf - he's quiet, but rock solid. Kopitar probably makes it too you're tossing names like Toews and Bergeron out there.

Great topic for discussion, but you have to leave McDavid out of this because he's the next generation.

Can someone explain what point share is to me? How is something like that calculated?
where is Drew Doughty on this list? If Karlsson gets there due to his offensive ability,
I mean - Doughty should be there based on his complete game and I'd put him above Toews as well. Every year he's in the conversation for the Norris, often a finalist.
