Anybody that produces! Ha, he produced more than any other rookie in the past DECADE, since Ovechkin's rookie season, so yeah, if you're going to pick A guy to produce, Barzal seems like a pretty good bet.

Ppg rookie seasons are not something that happen often.

We arent comparing him to a proven ppg producer over multiple seasons. We're comparing him to a promising young center with a good (not great) 66 point season under his belt.

Right now barzal is a tier above point (arguably 2 tiers). Until one moves up or down a tier this really isn't close imo.

    C. McDavid, N. Kucherov, R. O'Reilly, J. Schwartz, J. Toews, J. Huberdeau, T. Toffoli, M. Granlund

    Defense:

Barzal just had the best rookie season in a decade (or more) and has the skills to someday contend for a scoring title.

I really like Point as well, but this really isn't even close.

Barzal might have a drop in production next year, as I think many people will in the NHL, but he will still easily outpoint Point, imo.

    Defense: J. Morrissey, A. DeAngelo, S. Gostisbehere, D. Doughty

Point had a really great rookie year... the thing is Barzal had a spectacular year.

I think the way Barzal plays with that in close, transition speed that offers him immediate separation it is going to help insulate him from the sophomore slump. I'll take him for 80+ next year and by season 4 he's knocking on the century mark.

Point's going to be great, but Barzal is just on a different level

All well said. I don't think it's close either. Barzal has the potential to be a true star for fantasy purposes and likely NHL purposes. I think he can work his way into the top 30 as far as Dynasty rankings. He might have a sophomore slump next season, but I would expect him to be around a PPG player (between 70-90 points) for the majority of his career.

when you put up 85pts in your rookie year... a 100pt season becomes realistic

I'm late to the thread, but I did do a Cage Match on Barzal not too long ago - worth a read IMO. Link is in my signature. I also covered Point, although that was back in October - still though, likely worth a gander.

I know, that's not the reason for this thread, to debate Dobbers rankings and yes there's a gap between Barzal and Point. I am just sayin.....

To the OP, Barzal is the right choice in a points-only format today.
I agree with Axeman (again). I'm glad I own both and don't have to choose but Barzal for me here
