he didn't say anything. It's just speculation. My guess is he won't turn down a contract.

    This.

Tkachuk was in contention to go #3 (ahead of Dahlin) in dynasty drafts because of potential to be a multi-category impact right away. If he's taking a year to make the leap, he loses a bit of luster. Enough to potentially take him out of my top 5 depending on how everything shakes out. Not a huge fall, but enough of a slip.

I hear ya, but even for fantasy, very few players make it and contribute in their first season.

Why is this even a story?

In the Entire draft last year, only the top 2 picks remained in the NHL. 3 if you count Aho (D) that had a late stint in the NHL.

Even if Tkachuk said he would play in the NHL next season, chances are the extra year of development is better than stepping right in on a terrible team.

EDIT: Just saw this is for fantasy, ignore above.

If he is picked high there?s really no reason to return to college. He doesn?t need the degree and he can play nhl right away with his body. Worst case he plays minors and still gets paid. I see him being picked top 5 and all teams would use him right away.

    This.

I'm baffled by it. Unless this is a calculated ploy in "hopes" that a couple of teams pass on you in the top 5, without appearing to be a bad guy. If so, that's pretty smart tactic by his agent. Montreal and Ottawa specifically need help immediately and they pick 3-4, right where Tkachuk could go.

    Agreed.

I have the pick(s) to nab BT in my fantasy draft. The news that he is inclined to play one more year in college, thereby not being rushed to the bigs actually makes him a more attractive player to draft in my books (for a fantasy team I mean).

I think the larger concern would be a Jimmy Vesey scenario. Sticking in college until they hit free agency.

Tkachuk will be in the NHL long before he becomes a UFA.

This would never happen . It?s happened once in history that a high college pick didn?t sign with the team that drafted him.

    On Brady Tkachuk …
Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: There were multiple reports earlier this week that 2018 draft prospect Brady Tkachuk would return to Boston University for his sophomore season. Keith Tkachuk, Brady’s dad said yesterday that those reports may be premature.

“I wouldn’t say a decision has been made yet either way,” Keith Tkachuk said. “We just haven’t really discussed it yet. We will wait until after the draft before a decision is made.”
