Default Carlos Martinez vs Chris Archer

In my keeper points league, I own Martinez and was offered Chris Archer for him.

Most rankings I have seen have them pretty much side by side. Last year, in our league, Archer averaged 19.7ppg for a total of 628.9 total points. Martinez averaged 20.0 ppg for a total of 640 points.

Can anyone give me a good reason to do this trade or is this a sideways deal at best or worse, a losing one for me?

I own both these guys in my dynasty league and I receive a lot more offers for Martinez than I do Archer.

I think this is your classic floor/ceiling type discussion.

Martinez has the higher floor because he plays for a team that wants to win and has the lineup to win. So if wins are a category then he has a nice safe floor.

However... Archer has pitched around 200 innings each of the last three years and has 252, 233, 249 strikeouts... so if he could get some run support and some wins.. he has the higher ceiling.

If Archer could get the same amount of wins as Martinez... Archer is the better fantasy asset... but that is a big if!

I’d rather have Martinez, will post lower era whip while posting more Ws and probably less Ls. QS should be close. The only category I give to archer is Ks.

PH nailed a lot of it. Archer has the K upside....Martinez on the better team. Im just terrified of the AL East and actually whenever I have a tight call on a pitcher I choose the NL one...so I would side Martinez.

    CM will be like a 190-200IP, 11-17wins, 3-3.5ERA, 1.18-1.3 WHIP, 15-20QS, 180-200ks if healthy

    Archer 190-200IP, 8-15wins, 3.50-3.90ERA, 1.20-1.25WHIP, 12-17QS, 220-250ks if healthy. Wins could jump a couple if traded.

CM has the wins, ERA, I’m split on WHIP (he could be very good, but maybe gets elevated), has QS. So 3-4 cats vs 5 stats.

Archer shows flashes of dominance, but I can’t see him as a legit ace (in real life) or poor No2/legit No3 (which is what he's being drafted as in fantasy). He had a solid 3 yr run as a strikeout artist. But 1 of his 3 yrs was high. I dunno, I rather Carlos Martinez, but if you get Archer you’re clearly hoping for a year where he gets that 3.20ERA not his 4ERA he’s had the last 2 yrs.
