    Default Rate My Draft

Looking to get some activity in the Dobber Baseball forum so I thought I'd post this. Last night was my keeper league draft. Here is a quick background.

    10 Team Yahoo Head-to-Head Categories - Keep 4
    R-H-HR-RBI-SB-TB-AVG-OPS
    W-SV-K-ERA-WHIP-K/BB-K/9_QS
(pretty redundant stats - emphasis on power)

Keepers are Mike Trout, Joey Votto, Cody Bellinger & Chris Sale with Vladamir Guerrero Jr. as my prospect.
Keeper players can be kept for 4 years max before they are reentered into the player pool.
Player positions are standard other than OF. Instead of 4 OF we use LF, CF, RF & OF which makes the league a little harder when it comes to rostering.
Players I let walk from last years team include Noah Syndergaard, Jose Ramirez, Dee Gordan and Zach Grenkie. Couldn't trade any of them because there is no offseason trading and there isn't much dialogue in this league. Did I keep the right players?

Also of note, I traded away my Round 10, 12 & 14 picks last season while acquiring Rounds 16, 18 & 20. So the middle of the draft really hurt me as I watched a ton of players I had targeted pass me by. Now for the draft....

    (Round / Overall Pick)
    1 / 9 - Keeper (Trout)
    2 / 12 - Keeper (Votto)
    3 / 29 - Keeper (Sale)
    4 / 32 - Keeper (Bellinger)
    5 / 49 - Yu Darvish (SP)
6 / 52 - Nelson Cruz (RF) - wanted to fill this hole sooner than later because RF is shallow and already had LF/CF covered via keepers.
    7 / 69 - Elvis Andrus (SS)
    8 / 72 - Daniel Murphy (2B)
    9 / 89 - Adrian Beltre (3B)
    11 / 109 - Ken Giles (RP)
13 / 129 - Ian Happ (2B/LF/CF/RF) - Really wanted Marwin Gonzalez but he surprisingly went in the previous round which I didn't have a selection for.
    15 / 149 - Alex Colome (RP)
16 / 152 - Justin Turner (3B) - Didn't need another 3B and he is out a couple months but I thought he was a steal this late. Couldn't pass him up.
    16 / 160 - Marcus Stroman (SP)
    17 / 169 - Garrett Richards (SP)
    18 / 172 - Archie Bradley (RP)
    18 / 180 - Mike Clevinger (SP)
    19 / 189 - Carlos Gonzalez (RF)
    20 / 192 - Charlie Morton (SP)
    20 / 200 - Yadier Molina (C)
    21 / 209 - Denilson Lamet
    22 / 212 - Keeper (Vlad Jr.)

So overall how do you think I did taking into account missing big draft picks mid-draft? I feel like I have the power bats to compete and my pitching staff isn't all that bad either. Unfortunately we only have 2 DL spots and to start the season I'm going to have Murphy, Turner and Lamet going on the DL with the possibility of Stroman as well. Had I known Denilson Lamet was injured (yesterday afternoon?) I wouldn't have taken him but Yahoo didn't have his status updated at the time of drafting. Also of note, once players clear I plan to add Dominic Leone (RP-STL) who looks to be lined up as the Cardinals closer, but I don't plan on using my number 2 waiver priority on him. Was also considering dropping Lamet for Dylan Bundy. I know I have questions spread out through this entire post but any feedback is welcome. Will rep who I can as well. Thanks guys!

I would say you kept the right players. I really like the rest of your lineup except you're probably going to be dropping CarGo shortly. Is Winker available?? He's a RF I believe.

I would have considered Ramirez over Votto, but I don't know how many years each guy could be kept and whatnot. Definitely didn't make a bad choice, that's just a matter of opinion with me.

All in all looks like a decent draft

I think Darvish is going to have a monster season. The Cubs have an excellent pitching coach and you know he'll get run support. Plus, his stuff has looked great in spring. I can't comment intelligently about anyone else you drafted. Good luck.

I think Daniel murphy is going to be like a Andrew Luck Lite when it comes to this injury.

He had surgery in like October/November or something. They said he’d be ready for Spring Training, then they said he’d be ready for late ST, then ready for opening day, then now he’s on the 10-day DL. Picking him at 72 is kinda high for my liking.

Colome is a solid pick at 149.
I like the Stroman pick, and Morton. Bradley lost the closer role, but could be a Andrew Miller type pitcher, but Boxburger or whatever will get hurt and Archie will be a closer soon enough I bet.

Hard to have a bad team when you have Trout, Votto, Sale, and Bellinger going into the draft.
