Donato Keeper Inquiry

G A P PPP SOG PIM +/-, 14 team keeper league, H2H

Just spiked Ryan Donato off waivers with the first waiver priority in my league. Beat out 5 other GM's in the bid who also put in a claim. My last keeper spot is was down to either keeping Guenztel or Namestnikov. But now that i have Donato i'm wondering if he should be kept over either of those 2? Small sample size so far on Donato but looks like he has the pedigree and skills to be an offensive star. Any advice will help. Thank you.

Is this a cap league, curious as you mentioned you bid on him.

I don't think you need to make this decision right now, wait to see how he performs in season/playoffs. At this point I would still keep Guentz, exposure to Crosby/Malkin is a dangerous recipe.

I am not as high on Names away from Kuch and Stamkos, a lot of his early season productivity was due to being part of the hottest line in hockey

Hold your horses!! Donato's sample size is so small I would not give up either of the more proven players for him. My last keeper in your situation (Guentzel, Namestnikov or Donato) is definitely Guentzel.

No this is not a cap league. I meant i had waiver 1 priority, and 5 other GM's also tried to get him with lower priorities.

Donato wasn't in the player pool on some fantasy sites (like yahoo!), so when they add him he appears on waivers to give everyone a fair shot, so waiver priority / FAAB suddenly matter.
Someone got Mitch Marner this way last year as he wasn't in the player pool until after our draft :S

Out of curiousity, is it the same on other websites? Fantrax? ESPN?

Fantrax has Rasmus Dahlin available already. They also have Shane Walsh and Steve Swavely

For whatever it's worth, Pronman's mailbag today mentioned Donato. This is what he said: "I don’t think Donato’s an impact guy but could see a solid long-term top-six forward."

FWIW, I'd keep Jake. I'd also look to trade Donato ASAP while his stock is high.
