Default Andrei Svechnikov suspended first four games of OHL playoffs

In the final period of Barrie's final game of the season (a 10-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves) Svechnikov received a five-minute major and game misconduct for a hit to the head penalty and has subsequently been suspended for the first 4 playoff games against Mississauga.

You can see the hit here.

The OHL has cracked down on head shots and it looks like Svechnikov jumped into the hit but damn! , I'm pretty surprised how hard they came down on him. Robert Thomas only got 5 games for blatantly slashing a guy in the face and that was just after the trade deadline when Hamilton had a playoff spot all but locked up.

Yeah.... this is shocking the amount of games he got. I am surprised big time.

I wonder if the Colts will appeal the suspension? Or is there an appeal process in the OHL??

Mathieu Foget of the Steelheads had a much worse hit and was given the same amount of games...

And those were regular season games... usually playoff games are worth more value to the suspension committees.

I’m going with he’s Russian and the Russians are becoming better than the Canadians in our own league.

not sure I agree with this statement. Specifically that the Russians are becoming better than Canadians...

But maybe being Russian contributed to the suspension he got.

    It won't be appealed.

Ouch, I hadn't seen that yet. Those 4 games will be playoffs as well by the way.

You took that statement way too literally.

Yeah I see no reason to make that hit, winning 3-1 with 30 seconds left. Svech's absence will be a bigger loss than Foget's in this series no doubt, though I still think the Colts will come out on top.

It certainly brings things closer to even.

The Foget hit looks much more like the open-ice headshots the O wants to eliminate. If Svech gets 4 games Foget should be out 10-20 by my eyes.

Svechnikov and Foget both return tonight with the series tied 2-2. It will be interesting to see how Svech and Barrie respond, I'd expect Svechnikov to come out of the gate strong.

edit: I'm an idiot who can't remember what day it is. I had looked at the wrong boxscore and the last game of the suspensions are tonight.

I hope you are predicting the future and I hope you are right on a lot of it.

I hope that Barrie can tie the series at 2-2 tonight. And then I hope Svechnikov comes out strong as well!!

    Go Colts!!

Yea, I just realised I was looking at the wrong box score. I'm blaming the holiday tomorrow for me not realising that it's Thursday.
