    Default Trying to get Risto

    Hey,

So as the title states, I'm trying to get risto.
I threw out an offer of Pasta + Konecny + Colin Miller

For his: Risto + first (2nd overall) + Reinhart

He really likes konecny, is this a fair trade or should I substitute Pasta with Stamkos and ask for Point?

I think you are giving up too much in this package.

Pastrnak is a young star... Konecny is having a great year...

This is a continuation of a previous thread posted by the other manager I believe.

It's a weird setup that distorts the value a bit from what we traditionally see.

Thankfully, it's points based, so ultimately, all that matters is the total points they put together. I think Stamkos came in at 4.8 PPG and Risto at 4.5 PPG. That 0.05 points per minute for defensemen is pretty crazy. A 3rd of ristolainen's production is purely from his time on ice in this league, which is kind of ridiculous.

Anyhow, I did some math and I figure you get something like this for the fantasy points per game:
    Pastrnak - 3.4
Konecny - 2.3 (future of 3.15 in my books)
Miller - 3.4 (tough to say what he'll be in the future, 4 maybe?)
    TOTAL - 9.95

    vs

Ristolainen - 4.2 (1.3 points per game just by being on the ice!?!)
Reinhart - 2.95 (3.15 in the future, similar to Konecny)
    TOTAL - 7.35

DIFF - 2.6 (based on future production)

    Some Notes:
    - Risto is the best player in the deal based solely on the fact that he is on the ice for like 25 minutes a game and puts up ok numbers otherwise.
    - Difference is 2.6, which shouldn't be too hard to make up from the wire given how defensemen are scored.
    - Risk in Ristos value plummeting if his ice time is ever taken away.
    - Miller looks like a solid option as well, who may grow into additional ice time

Tough to say with this trade. It's probably pretty fair, I'd probably take the Pasta side for more certainty, but I think it is a tough league for most people here to comment on due to the unorthodox scoring format.

Wow Kofax, thanks for such an in depth response. Ya your exactly right, I'm not sure if the other manager posted it or not as I didn't see it (I'll have to check the boards more thoroughly). Ya, I thought it was quite fair but he really likes risto. He also has Ghost, do you think I should be targeting him instead? Ghost's value could go up even more if he starts to get more ice time, but that'll depend on if he can improve the defensive side of his game.

What kind of points does Gostisbehere put up? I wouldn't count on his minutes increasing as he seems to me like an offensive specialist, so keep that in mind if you go after him. Your defense doesn't look too bad. Your forwards actually look thinner. Any reason you're targeting defense?

So here’s my plan, and any advice is more than welcome

In our league centers and Dmen seem to be the most likely to put up points. Some averages: Stamkos – 4.8, Subban – 4.6, Risto – 4.6, Ghost – 4.5, Zibanajad – 4.2, Horvat – 3.9, Stone – 3.8. I had a trade offer for Subban + stone for Zib and Horvat. In my opinion, this isn’t quite enough so I thought of trying to get a 2019 first as well, but I am unfamiliar with their value as this is my first keeper league.

I thought that Zib and Horvat have a higher chance of getting more points in total compared to Subban and stone next year and for years to come, largely because wingers in this league are at a bit of a disadvantage, eg: Pasta at 70pts is avg 3.7 but Backlund at 41 pts averages at 3.5.

So then my idea is to trade Stamkos that eventually gets me a Dman: Ekblad or Dumba. So these are some trade ideas I had where I’ve received some dialogue in return:

    1. Stamkos for Dumba + Zadina + 2019 first
    2. Stamkos + Miller for Pasta + Ekblad + Mittelstadt ? Pasta I would probably try to trade to either get Dahlin or another Dman or Center.
    3. Stamkos + Miller for Ekblad + Hischier + Mittelstadt

I was trying to trade stamkos in a package that would either get me Risto or Ghost but it doesn’t look like that will happen.

Does any of this seem logical or am I trying too hard to find a trade just for the sake of making a trade?

I must admit I find the league scoring hard to understand. But what I do understand is that Stamkos is the best player by far in any of these deals. Maybe it's different in your league but without any apparent motivation for moving Stammer (CAP for example) I think he is a guy you try and acquire, not a guy you try to trade away. I think your trying too hard (:

Ya the league scoring has taken some time to get used to, partly why my drafting was all over the place lol (we started drafting in feb). Yes Stamkos is right now, but my team isn't strong enough to compete next year or in the next few years (in my opinion). So I thought it makes more sense to get younger, try to get as many young pieces as possible to increase my chances of finding success with some of those pieces. I also didn't draft enough good prospects to try to go the other way and trade them for known vets.

Dumba actually gets quite a few points in our league set up, averaging 4.0 this year and has a real possibility to become on par with stamkos in the future if he gets 1st pairing min or first PP.
