Default Ryan Donato or Eeli Tolvanen?

Between these two prospects that are expected to help their teams late this year, which one have the higher upside for the years to come?

Both are in offense heavy teams (Boston and Nashville) and both have great pedigree leading up to now.

Tough choice! Trying to choose between one of them.

    Thanks

Tolvanen. When in doubt, go with pedigree/draft position. Also when in doubt, go with the guy who's played professionally over a college league player.

Tolvanen for me as well. and the reasons Sherpa gave are great.

I also think that Tolvanen in Nashville is better than Donato in Boston..., don't make a quick decision because Donato had one good game.

Thanks guys for the pointers! Donato hits waiver and I'm wondering if I want to use my 1st overall. I'm hoping Tolvanen comes over soon and Yahoo will add him. (been following the Khl playoff closely due to this!)

If this was just a 1 year league I would consider using the waiver on Donato... but since it is a keeper (you said for years to come) I definitely save it and use it on Tolvanen when Yahoo makes him available.

In a keeper Tolvanen and it's not close at all for me. The guy's got star written all over him.

I think Donato helps you more this year, but Tolvanen is by far the better keeper.

Without question, Tolvanen. Donato I think will be good but he's not really close to Tolvanen. IF I luck out in our waiver draft, I am taking Donato only because another GM has Tolvanen. Nashville has already promised him a top 6 spot whereas Donato probably won't be so lucky in Boston. At least not as soon as Tolvanen.
Points only keeper. 12 Teams. No pos requirements. 18 skaters / 3 goalies (2 count for points.) G/A = 1 point each (includes goalies) Goalies = 1.5 for W / 4.5 for SO. Minors - 4 year protection. Prospects added during their draft year only. Undrafted = waivers.

I am not sure if either really helps this year but if I had to gamble on either, I'd go with Donato. Donato is getting a great opportunity right now due to a lot of injuries with the Bruins. I don't think he's going to be that far off from Tolvanen for the rest of this season plus the biggest thing for me; he's here and playing now. Tolvanen coming over is simply an assumption until he's here.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League

25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month

I was thinking of a way to say almost exactly what’s Axe said above. For me, I’m Taking Donato. But I’ve been scouting this kid since December. Paid close attention to when he was selected to play for the US in the Olympics and the hype he had prior to the olympics that he was expected to walk on to this team. His presence is not a surprise in Boston. And I think this is start of a great opportunity for Donato in Boston.

As for Tolvanen... he has to get here first. I remember a guy who was “a lock” to play top 6 minutes for Vegas. Where did that guy go?

He went on my fantasy team over the pending UFA to be traded Marchesseault. I ended up in 4th and out of contention and with a completely wasted draft pick.

I say take Tolvanen here and don't look back.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Looks like the majority believe Tolvanen is a better keeper option. I'm just hoping he'll make it here before the Yahoo season is over.

btw - side question - in one of my leagues, the final playoff week is this week. Can I still add players after the season is over in my league? Just thinking if Tolvanen comes next two weeks, can I still add him?

Soon as i saw the topic I was all in on Tolvanen. That said I trust the opinions of the experts over my own. Once upon a time I thought a young Puljujarvi looked better than a young Laine when I watched them both play. Then i listened to the experts when they were draft eligible and took Laine.

I'm in the same position as the OP. I have 1st waiver pick in a very deep league (16 teams keep up to 25) on Yahoo. I've been waiting for someone like Tolvanen, Pettersson, Mittelstadt, etc. to be added so I can grab what would be a very high draft pick next fall with my waiver pick now. But here we are with only 2.5 weeks left in the season and no confirmation that any of these guys are going to play this year. I've been following closely, and I know the speculation that Tolvanen is expected to sign following his playoffs, BUT does he sign?, and if he does will it be soon enough to get into a few games at the end of the season? Just signing his ELC doesn't get him added to Yahoo. Donato had to play a game, then got added the next day (March 20th) and is still clearing waivers in my league (clears March 22nd). So, while there is no question I'd draft any of the 3 guys I've mentioned above before Donato, I'm not comfortable missing on Donato while I wait and hope that Tolvanen signs, works through all the redtape of coming to NA, plays in a game, is added to Yahoo, and then clears waivers in time for me to add him before my league freezes and I can't. Yes, I've made my decision and am basically reinforcing it haha, but please if anyone can convince me otherwise before my waiver claim on Donato processes tomorrow morning I'd love to hear your input.

    Thanks!
