Default Top 10 players (Pts) for 2018/19 season

I'm in the early stages of working on a list for next season and have roughly done the top 10 so far. Going to be lots of players that we can buy low on for next season. Here is my top 10 (as of right now). What is yours? What are your thoughts going forward with these players?

    1. Connor McDavid (EDM)
    2. Nikita Kucherov (TBL)
    3. Nathan MacKinnon (COL)
    4. Sidney Crosby (PIT)
    5. Auston Matthews (TOR)
    6. Johnny Gaudreau (CGY)
    7. Mark Scheifele (WPG)
    8. Taylor Hall (NJD)
    9. Jack Eichel (BUF)
    10. Vladimir Tarasenko (STL)

So many players to look through though. For example, Evgeni Malkin ... does he belong in the top 10 considering his injury history? Will he have another terrific year as he is having?

Marchand needs to be in the top 10. Top 3 PPG since beginning of last season. It's criminal to leave him out. So does Malkin despite injury history. I would take Matthews and Tarasenko out.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

I'd be nearly as worried about Scheifele missing games as I am Malkin. Gotta think you can push him out for Marchand. I think the locks are McD, Kuch, Crosby, and then the rest of your list definitely all look good to go 70+ points for sure. The tough part to predict is whether the guys who would sit just outside your top 10 (Seguin, Stamkos, Tavares, etc.) go bananas next season and overtake the other, less proven guys on your list. MacKinnon, Matthews, Scheifele, Eichel, or Hall could just as easily slip outside the top 10 if they run into some injuries (Scheifele, Eichel, Matthews), or the players they're lined up with see some regression (MacKinnon, Hall).

Definitely a great preliminary list though, solid mix of proven guys and speculative breakouts. I like it.

Looking at it a little more I am inclined to put Marchand in over Tarasenko. 2 years ago I would never even thought of doing so. Really hope that 'Jumpin' Jack Eichel can put together a full season ... same with Matthews.

Here is an idea what the top 50 may look like. The numbers at the side are what the play in that numbered position has for the year. So in a way it's an 'expected' total for that player. Still lots of tweaking to do of course but that is the REAL early version of 'the list' ... lol.

8,9,10 could be argued with the likes of Eichel, Hall, Tarasenko, Malkin, Giroux, Voracek, Scheifele, Kessel, Ov, Stamkos, Tavares....

But Marchand is #5 on that list. He has been automatic.

Decent list, but I really can't see Matthews in the top 5. Maybe top 15-20. His career high is still only 67. I doubt if Eichel takes the leap either. Pastrnak has to be top 10 next year...

Eichel & McDavid are both entering year 4 - Dobber's stated break out marker. I personally, would bump expectations on McDavid to 120pts and would have Eichel in the top 10 in scoring, top 5 in pt/gm.

Matthews was on a pt/gm pace this season even with all the injuries & playing the end of the year - still favouring his shoulder (he is now) I'd put him in the top 10... pretty much where Stuntman has him and move down Kane to 78pts range. I also expect a jump from Marner and Nylander both into the top 50 in scoring - over the 70pt mark and can see Marner pushing for top 20pts.

I also think we're closing in on a season where a dman or two plays with a pt/gm avg. and seeing EK go over 82 pts as soon as next season wouldn't surprise me.

I have been crunching the numbers this morning and this is what I have for the top 10 for the time being. The rest of the list is top secret until further notice.

It will probably change because there are still quite a few I haven't done complete projections on. Ovechkin for example. This is the fun part
