31 team dynasty league where we dress 4 forward lines (positions matter) and 6 defensemen every week. We have 25 pro roster spots and unlimited farm (anyone under 25 years of age can stay on the farm). We use the NHL salary cap and the NHL AAV for our salaries. We count G, A, +/-, hits, blocked shots, takeaways, face off wins + % (for centers only), PP TOI and PK TOI.

Who do you prefer going for the rest of this season and the next 3:

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ($6,000,000 for 5 seasons)
50 GP, 18 G, 17 A, .78 hits/g, .64 blocks/g, .78 takeaways/g. -3. 48.7 FO%

OR

Nick Schmaltz ($1,541,667 for 2 seasons)
66 GP, 20 G, 26 A, .2 hits/g, .48 blocks/g, 1.18 takeaways/g, 0, 40.5 FO%

I think RNH will have slightly higher production than Schmaltz but not high enough to justify $4.4m in cap difference. Cap space is only useful if you can use it on an upgraded player somewhere else, or leverage it in a trade etc.

Thus I voted Schmaltz and am most likely keeping him but if you are swimming in cap space already RNH may be the better option.

voted Nuge before reading teh cap situation...but i likely still take RNH unless you cant stomach or absorb teh AAV

Voted Schmaltz and it's all about the CAP. At a 6 Mil cap hit RNH will not produce what you need. Take the saved $$$ and get a stud or build solid depth across your line up.

It really depends on your cap situation. A case could be made for either player depending on the makeup of the rest of your team.
