I had both Brown picks wrong in my pre-draft predictions. Mayfield wasn't even on my radar for them and thought for sure they would take Chubbs with the 4th OA pick.

Mayfield can bring some swagger to the Browns that's for sure.

But to take Ward over Chubbs? I dunno. They did take Haden early when they had him and he was their best player for yrs.

Mayfield with Gordon, Landry, Njoku, Crowell, Duke, Coleman
Peppers, Garrett, and Ward on defense.

He's 23yrs old, he really just needs to know the playbook and then the rest of his development is NFL action time. His mechanics are what they are really in my opinion...but obviously my opinion is dirt compared to NFL employees. But if the Browns drafted any other QB, then Taylor has some time before the rookie QB was at his tails.

This is a pretty cool video of the Coaches/GMs calling the players they were picking to let them know its official.

I always wondered why they do that. Like I get why you would tell them you like them and stuff, but to call right before they are picked is odd to me.

I think they have 'made' the pick already and submitted it... but the process that the NFL draft goes through it takes a while before it actually gets to the Commissioner... so that gives the team time to call them and let them know they are their pick.

I guess teams want to tell the player they are picked instead of Roger Goodell. But I always liked that we know when the player knows. I was getting texts from a friend about 2min before like every pick saying where they were going. So he has to type it out, gets sent, and i receive it before the commissioner even says the pick.

So you got an NFL insider as a friend? Or how did he know before Goodell announced it? Or is there like a 2 minute delay between USA and Canada tv?

My guess is it gets leaked on twitter by someone in the green room. Like Cleveland (just an example) calls Mayfield, says you're our pick, someone tweets out "Mayfield just got a call and was super happy, likely drafted by Cleveland who has the next pick". Then Goodell is given the slip that says who was drafted and he walks out to tell the world.
