Default Top Prospects for Next Year! Combination of drafted / undrafted players

    Hi all,

So the way our league works, we used yahoo as the book of record. as such next year, these will likely be the top players available:

    Dahlin
    Tolvanen
    Pettersen
    Middlestadt
    A. Svechnikov
    Zadina

How do you rank these? G, A, PPP ONLY. position eligiblity matters somewhat - Tier 1: LW, D, Tier 2: RW, Tier 3: C

    Thank you!
    Keep 10: G, A, PPP, SHP, Wins, Save %

    LW: Guentzel, Olofsson, Vrana, Keller
    RW: Pastrnak, Marner, Bjorkstrand, Zucker
    D: Letang, Werenski, Slavvin, Chychrun

Only reason I ranked Dahlin higher than Pettersen was based on your positional tiers. If not for that Pettersen is #1.

You never know how Yahoo will bring players position eligibility into fruition, but I will assume all three of Svechnikov, Zadina and Tolvanen will be LW,RW. I think all three are RW's though.

    Svechnikov
    Zadina
    Tolvanen

    Dahlin

Pettersen (Do not think he will be in the NHL next season)
Middlestadt (will likely come is as maybe a C or a C/wing, but I also think he won't make the NHL next season either)

Just wanted to comment that Tolvanen is primarily a left wing while Pettersson is a right wing. Of course most forwards can play both wings if needed but those have been the positions they've mostly played.

And of course Yahoo may have a completely different positions for them because they're very bad with positions. Pettersson was drafted as a center, so Yahoo will likely put him with that position even though he's played mostly right wing this season.

For next season and ignoring the positional preference because it's too random with Yahoo, I'd rank them:
    Svechnikov
    Tolvanen
    Pettersson
    Zadina
    Dahlin
    Mittelstadt

I would also add Henrik Borgstrom to the list and put him ahead of Mittelstadt (I think Mittelstadt might go back to college for another season).

But unless you can add these players already now, I don't see any point in ranking them now because things can change a lot before next season starts.

Interesting thoughts here. I face a similar situation to jcheung29 in my upcoming draft (also a keep 10, all these young guys available) and have 3 of the top 6 picks (exact spots still TBD). There will be some quality vets available too but I am leaning towards spending perhaps 2 of these early picks on a couple of these guys.

Are people pretty convinced that all of these guys will be full-time NHLers next year? Particularly the three 2018 draftees?

I love their upsides but also would want to be at least rosterable all season next year while they work towards that upside. Gotta think the floors for next year are pretty low in some of these cases...

Svechnikov is already too good for the OHL
Dahlin can pretty much play in any league
Zadina I am not 100% sold on him playing in the NHL right away, but it would depend on the team that drafts him

I can't see any of the top 3 not making their teams opening night roster. I also see Tkachuk and potentially Bouchard making the cut whatever team they're drafted by.

Petterson is the best prospect outside of the NHL.

Agree with the bit about Dahlin, but I could see some teams thinking that it is better for his long-term development to marinate/mature/bulk vs non-NHL competition. That would be my only concern, because I love the kid.

Agreed. I just wonder if they will still be there for game 10.

Van doesn't have a history, really at all of cooking their top prospects for more than a year. Each year they've tried to push Virtanen into the NHL line up even though he obviously needed a lot more time. McCann the same way. Boeser was really the first they waited on. If Pettersson comes over from Sweden, he'll play. He's proven he can play with men already. Demko, they've really waited on, but G's are entirely different

He is just still very slight, so I wonder if they would bring him over right away. I am 50/50 on him coming over as another year in the SHL instead of another bad Vancouver team would not be a bad thing

I figure the Aquillini's will want to sell tickets. They don't like not making money. He'll play because him and Boeser together will sell.

Dahlin, Svech, Zadina, Tkachuk I'd be willing to bet on that they stick... Bouchard.. probably gets the 9 then goes back to London. he's my real darkhorse to get taken at #4 in June
