Seems like a steep price to pay for a band-aid until Matthews is healthy. I don't see Plekanec being a contributor here.

Meh, don't love it, don't hate it. It's fair.

Pleks is still a reliable two-way guy, great on the dot. The Leafs need that. Bozak has a bit more offensive upside at this stage of their careers, but he's been a mess defensively. I'd consider Pleks an upgrade on Bozak.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bozak gone by tomorrow. I would think the Leafs would want Pleks as 3C and continue to use Moore as 4C - Neither Bozak or Pleks really fits as that 4C role imo.

Detroit used to do this every deadline during their heyday. Chelios and Murphy to name a couple.

I think Green would be a great fit.

I agree with this. This team still needs help on the blueline before they are going to take the next step. I dont think Green is the missing piece. They already have lots of offense on the backend. What they need is a quality shutdown guy with playoff experience.

As the world knows, the Leafs need some help on D defensively. What I'm thinking tho is that 5/6/7 D spot is so even on who the Leafs have, it would need to be a very good talent to actually upgrade their D. Like Polak, Dermott, Carrick, and Borgman are all options for the Leafs, so how much of an upgrade is Cole to those guys?

And realistically we want Dermott in the lineup, so is Cole going to play well with Dermott? I'm not sure, plus Cole is another LH shot

Marleau was a great addition. Brought in more for his leadership and level of professionalism/commitment to be a role model for all these young players than he was for his offensive production. 25g 45pt pace - all you could have hoped for. He's a role model in that room for all the young rising stars. Add in that Matthews & Marner spend a lot of time with him off the ice. It only gets better when you look at the whole picture. He has been anything but a liability out there and takes any, every role asked of him without complaint.

As far as the Pleks trade goes. I love it. Reichel & Valiev were never going to make this leafs team, passed by too many other prospects. It gives them a solid opportunity elsewhere to make the NHL. We're looking at a late 2nd rounder for Pleks when it's all said and done (with the roster limit crunch the Leafs have been under, getting down to 48 contracts isn't a bad thing -- Korshkov coming over? Ozighenov signing?)

Mtl ate 50% of his salary, so the Leafs arguably now boast the best 4th line C in the game. Pleks can play up and down the line up to fill in for injury as required. That 4th line wont' see sheltered minutes anymore (Moore played against the softest competition of any Leafs C this year. Pleks is still great on the PK & solid two way 5x5. That's what we needed/wanted. Huge + to Lou for getting this done for basically a 2nd rounder.

I agree, the Leafs could still use a top 4dman but having gone 12-3 in last 15 with some solid defensive play mixed in, that need has been lessened since the emergence of Dermott
