I like the trade for both sides. Boston is a win-now team, and Nash is the classic rental player, aging former-superstar who may now just push the team over the edge to win the cup.

You know another contender is going to respond. Let's hope Tampa makes a play for Karlsson.

Quick take on the NYR-BOS trade: From a lineup perspective, BOS effectively traded Spooner for Nash. Nash likely a fit on 2nd line with Krejci and DeBrusk. BOS likes it 3rd line of Riley Nash-David Backes-Danton Heinen, so Spooner not a fit there and he?s not effective 4th liner

So Spooner became expendable and including him was also an inducement for BOS to lose the Matt Beleskey contract, well, half of it anyway. Don?t ever underestimate the value of buying cap space for a cap team like BOS. BOS is loaded with picks and prospects, so...

giving up a first-rounder and Lindgren to upgrade to a bigger, stronger, older, more experienced top six winger is well worth the price, in a year where BOS is a legit threat. That said, no guarantees who comes out of the TB-BOS-TOR Atlantic Division triangle.

Not sure I agree with Bob- bigger, stronger, more experienced, older Nash vs 26 yr old Spooner. Rick Nash has three more points than Ryan Spooner in 21 more games.

Guess Boston must value the experience of Nash, but he's a pending UFA.

Spooner isn?t a great player. His value ya like a second or third. For the playoffs Nash will be much more valuable

I'm not a huge fan of rental deals to begin with especially when trading for players past their primes.. But I am sure Bergeron had a huge say in this deal as he has played on Olympic teams with Nash..

The Bruins are in "Win Now" mode.. Belesky was an anchor.. Spooner really wasn't fitting in amd has been rumored to be traded for awhile now.. Lindgren, I guess we'll see.. Late 1st, ahwell..
I like the move and it puts pressure now on the teams around them..

    Go Bruins!! And Jets!!!!!!!!

    Nice return for the Rangers.

Adding up goals and assists total to determine player valuation works well in fantasy, but not in real life.

I don't think Spooner is anywhere near as good as Nash.

I grew up a Bruins fan, that is until my Nordiques came into the league so I have gone back to them now that my team is no more.

And I don't like this deal. Seems like an overpayment to me. Nash hasn't done much the last 3 years and he's 33 years old so I'm not expecting a turnaround to end the season. He's a rental but I think they could have found better (Grabner for example) and especially cheaper.

I still hope it works for them but my gut says it's not a good move.

Far too costly for the Bruins in my opinion, but I guess time will tell. If they win the Cup, no one will sneeze at this deal. Great trade for NYR, though!

I agree with this. Still an overpayment.
