Cole must be the "cap related elements".

Good return for both teams. Pittsburgh gets a big boost and injury insurance, Ottawa gets a solid goalie prospect, the 1st round pick they coveted in any deal for Brassard and Cole is a nice addition to the backend, even if he ends up being a rental.

Does this make Gustavsson the best goalie in Ottawa's system? More likely to succeed than Hogberg?

Who knows when it comes to goalie prospects, but he's a nice addition to their future if he pans out.

I would think Cole's a trade chip as well. Hopefully the agent told him not to book a flight just yet. I think Gustavsson will be a full tier above Hogberg. and is easily their best prospect. No knock on Hogberg per say, but Gustavsson's going to be really good

And needless to say, plan is for Ottawa to flip pending UFA Ian Cole before Monday's trade deadline

Seems a bit of an overpay, but I don't think Pittsburgh is all that worried about anything they gave up there. Late 1st, expendable defenseman, a goalie prospect they don't really need. They could afford to do this. Decent haul for Ottawa.
