Matthews left the game tonight. Took a hit. Missed the end and the shootout.

I was at the game. Took an awkward bump from an Islander, didn't even seem that bad seeing it in person. I'm hoping he was just removed as a precaution, but unfortunately several beers may have clouded my judgement so this may have been a career ending injury who knows.

He had back tightness issues this yr and it looked like it might have acted up when he took the hit. Announcers were saying shoulder, but the trainer had his hand up his jersey standing behind him looking like he was touching the right side of Matthews back.

To be fair they've always have said it's a Vasy vs Helly race and just how Andersen should be in the convo for 3rd, but Andersen has been the most valuable player/goalie to his team a lot as of recent.

if you look at stats Vasil is still#1 and has some lead over other 2, to me Helly and Andersen are now tied for 2nd. But Anderson has more work than other 2 but quite margin and is definitely most valuable player on a team atm, not sure you can say the same for other 2.

Tough kid then, but also you gotta remember everyone gets MRIs in the NHL for stuff. It's not all doom and gloom yet.

At which you are looking at 2-3 weeks minor. 6-8 weeks major. Majors are definitely rarer though. So probably if it is the shoulder any where from 2 - 6 week range.

Good thing is if the Leafs lose momentum and end up out of the race to catch TBL and Boston, they are firmly entrenched in that 3rd spot.
