As Tampa has only 2mill in cap space some creative movement would need to be done if they were a team who'd be involved with EK.

Something like:
To Tampa:
Karlsson (0.405834mill retained)
B.Ryan

To Ottawa:
Sergachev
Raddysh
Yan
Callahan (waives NTC)
Girardi (waives NTC)
1^st round 2018 pick.

Tampa buys out B.Ryan, to gain about 2mill in cap space, or they keep him and stay RIGHT on the 75mill cap. Ottawa gets a 1st round pick which they don't have anymore, they get a top prospect (Sergachev), they get bodies (Callahan/Girardi), and they get some B-list-ish prospects (Yan Raddysh). I personally don't think Tampa would really entertain a trade for EK as I just don't really see a massive need for him, but crazier things have happened.

Someone mentioned that deal, I'm saying it would need salary going the other way.

Plus the trade rids Ottawa of Ryan. I think it's actually closer than people think if Ryan is involved. But if Ryan is involved, Tampa I doubt is part of it.

Ottawa still has their pick for this year. It's lottery protected. If it's a top-10 pick, it's theirs. If it's 11 or below, it's Colorado's.

Ahh. The curse of Matt Duchene. doubt Karlsson gets deadlined. Would be hilarious if he went to another crap team like Montreal for say Pacioretty and picks after season end. Could definitely see a Stanley cup dark horse like Toronto trying to make a play.

If Karlsson is not going to take a home town discount (and there's no reason to me why he should..) why wouldn't Ottawa aggressively 'listen' to offers for him? 8 years at $11+ Million a year would be crippling to the Sens chances of retooling around him..

Melnyk obviously has an internal team cap that's below/well below the NHL cap and teams like Edmonton are already showing how a team in today's NHL cannot - realistically - have prolonged success while paying players $8.5 Million +.

I know McD is not paid his new salary yet, but Edmonton no doubt is making roster decisions this year considering the new deal already in play for Draisaitl and next year kicking in for McDavid.

It's not automatic that Ottawa would get a sexy offer - BUT - if they could land some quality (young roster player(s), pick(s) and maybe a prospect), while also off loading Ryan, you could easily argue that the Sens are better off next year and beyond without those two, than with.

Ellis, Tolvanen, 1^st rounder as the center of the trade (adding another prospect and maybe a pick) for EK

Preds still make it under the cap. Ellis has 1 yr after this yr at 2.5mill, and will get a bigger contract (6mill?) but less than Karlssons demand, they get a prospect who’s done very well after drafted, a 25-31pick (1^st rounder), plus more.

this is getting out of control. i agree that Dorion should have put these flames out a while back by saying he's absolutely NOT trading EK, but since he hasn't its lit teh speculation (by teh media!!) that hes not NOT considering trading EK which has lead to teams supposedly sending in offers?!

and IF this does happen (i again say it's not even close) they are better off not tying BR to EK. it diminishes his return so badly it just doesn't make sense. yes BR has a brutal contract, but that's just a weight they have to carry. "We would give you W,X,Y and Z but you are making us take BR so we are only offering a shittier X,Y and a smaller Z"
