Why not just fire him now then? This is one of the more important periods for transactions, I would want a GM in there that I dont think is such an idiot that I have to take his keys away from him.
I always take these rumors with a grain of salt but this one has my attention.

"During a segment on 91,9 Sports radio in Montreal, former Montreal Canadiens enforcer Georges Laraque revealed that a very reliable source has informed him that Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin has been effectively shut down by owner Geoff Molson, seemingly indicating that the owner has finally lost confidence in his controversial GM."
Why not just fire him now then? This is one of the more important periods for transactions, I would want a GM in there that I dont think is such an idiot that I have to take his keys away from him.

I have trouble believing this... if he is handcuffed at a critical time that he could improve his team.... the trade deadline is usually when a team or two over-react and overspend on a rental player...
montreal needs to improve... unless the handcuff is put on specific players... like Bergevin can only trade these three players or soemthing like that.
But I agree with Doug Glatt that if this is the case... just fire him.
I would take what Georges Laraque says with a shovel of salt...
Points-only keeper league. 12 teams. Keep any 12 players. Dress 12F - 6D - 2G.
Yeah, you might be right. If thats the case, then Laraque may have lost all respect with the media and will now disappear once and for all. Why would you ruin your reputation just to get a rise from the media?
I never follow up on trade rumors just because they happen every day. This however is different, as it pertains to a manager who has been on the fan's hot seat for making unpopular trades in the past.
Might keep MB around for the familiar face between GMs and have the assistant GMs doing all the work on who to target, who to trade away, is it a good trade

Ok so Laraque got the name mixed up. It was Shea Weber that was getting shut down for the season.
As per Rotoworld:
"Shea Weber will undergo foot surgery to repair a torn tendon.
Weber has been ruled out for the rest of the season as a result. The original hope was that Weber would be able to recover through rehab alone, which would have enabled him to play again in 2017-18. However, progress wasn't being made and it was determined after further examination that surgery was the way to go. Weber was limited to 26 games this season."
