Maybe not, but over the next few weeks he?s a vastly better option than Lyon or Tokarski and at this point it could be the whole difference between missing and making the playoffs. Small price to pay.

Apparently, this is the first time Hextall moved picks to get a player. He's playing a long-term game, and wasn't willing to give up picks in the past.

Writer of the weekly Top 10 column.

12-team Keeper pool, straight points for forwards & dmen. Goalies get: 2 points per win, 3 per shutout, 1 point per assist & 1 point per shootout loss.

    League champ in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Top 8 forwards, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

We keep 15 players (any position) plus two rookies.

Forwards: Panarin, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Stamkos, Tuch, Rust, Marchessault, Pavelski, Miller, Bertuzzi, Stone, Kakko, Brown, Stankoven, Kovalenko
Defence: Hedman, Fox, Matheson, Thrun, Jiricek
Goalies: Kochetkov, Talbot, Vasilevskiy, Campbell, Schmid

Stolarz is their goalie of the future, he's the one they protected. But Mrazek is an RFA, 26yrs old, so at worst they can resign him fairly cheap and run a decent tandem again next yr with him and someone else (buy out the other goalie maybe).

Elliott and Neuvirth are both under contract next yr, but at 2.75 and 2.5mill respectively

Flyers are the team I follow closely and all I’m saying is Mrazek is a bandaid for this season. Hextall passed on Mraz when Elliot went down, with Neuvirth hurt that obviously changed. For this season alone it’s a great deal since the current tandem is sphincter clenchingly scary.

I’d be shocked if Philly qualified him since it would take a $4mill offer on top of the two NHLers they have signed and the pipeline of Hart, Sandstrom, Stolarz, etc.

Thanks for this info. Then yes this makes much more sense for DET to eat salary and make this deal.

I believe that if Mrazek's wife has a baby during the 1st round, the pick drops to a 5th and becomes a 6th if it's during the 2nd round. Uncomfirmed though. Jeez. The stipulations are funny.

Im pulling for him for obvious reasons....but goalies and Philly don't work out very often.

Lyon, Stolarz and Carter Hart..and maybe Felix Sandstrom in the wing sometime too. Gosh - maybe they'll have a goalie turn out eventually!

Mrazek has some star potential and he's still pretty young. Wondering why detroit made the trade though.

There are about 4,000,002 reasons they made the trade.

    1) They have Jimmy Howard signed for this season and next.
    2) They need draft picks to fuel their rebuild.
    3) They have no intention of qualifying Mrazek for $4,000,000 this summer.

Lots of goalies have star potential but that doesn't mean they ever become one. chuckcouples nails it for me with his 3rd point; they weren't going to qualify him at seasons end so at least they got something in return for him.

More than a couple mid-round picks the Red Wings need a long-term #1 goalie. Howard isn't that guy at 33. Mrazek is 26 and has good years under his belt. I would have qualified him and taken a chance on him as a long-term solution.

I think this has more to do with Mrazek not being popular among Red Wings management and they simply decided to move on.

I think the stipulations were probably imposed by Hextall.... he is protecting himself. if Mrazek comes in and plays well then the pick becomes better for Detroit and Hextall looks genius.

If Mrazek doesn't play well enough to get the required number of wins its a 4th round pick and Flyers fans will be alright trading a 4th round pick for a chance at playoffs.
