That is not collusion. Thats gamesmanship
This is for the roto league in my sig and I'm looking to seek some outside opinions on this situation.
Let's say that there are two teams that are competing for the 1st place league position at the top of the standings and let's call them Team A and Team B.
Let's say that there is also a third team, Team C, who is lower in the standings but is very close with Team A in +/- and close with Team B in peripheral categories like PPP/Hits/Blocks.
If Team A decides to make (seemingly lopsided) trade with Team C to help Team C take peripheral points away from Team B, but also potentially hurt Team C's +/- (which Team A and Team C are close in), is this potentially a collusion situation?
So it'd look something like this:
- Team A trades strong PPP/Hits/Blocks, weak +/- player to Team C for practically nothing
- Team C takes PPP/Blocks points away from Team B, who is close at the top of the standings with Team A
- Team C loses +/- points to Team A
I'm sorry if this description seems convoluted as it's a bit of a hard one to judge.
Rep will be given all round.

Strategy.
Thanks guys, figured as much. Rep given.
Even though the trade is quite lopsided, there is value to Team A for having this particular player on Team C, and the player Team A gets in return can be dropped and used to pick up someone else/stream (Team A's intention).

Unless there was an agreement between A and C to trade everyone back in the offseason, then this is just good strategy to try and win the league.

Or an agreement between A and C that C isn't allowed to trade any of the players he's newly obtained....
Of course, you won't be able to prove this. Which is exactly why these types of trades don't pass the sniff test.
Team A likely only does this is he's assured that Team C will hold the players...
It might be, and it definitely needs to be investigated by the commish. As stated, it smells a bit funny. Yes it could be just gamesmanship, but I've seen at least one example of this that was actually collusive.

What is team C getting out of this? If team C doesn't get anything back worth keeping and simply making a trade that will only benifit team A, then it is definitely collusion. Teams A and C are teaming up to take team B out the race for first place and team A will somehow repay team C for their help. Watch future transactions. This shit happens a lot.
Now if team C is getting something significant in return, then that would be a good strategy on the part of team A.
That’s total strategy.
Agree with the rest of those who are making the argument that this is strategy. Could it be collusion? Sure, if the owners had some sort of side arrangement but then again you can say that about every single trade in every single league on every single planet in every single solar system in every single universe.
There's no truly perfect league set-up and as a result there's always a way to "game the system" in some fashion. Team A in this case has figured out a loophole, if you can even call it that, in your league's system.
