Default My picks for 2018 Draft. Looking for input.

Go easy on me. I've got 4 picks in the top 11 of my pool. 2, 4, 9 and 11. We are a points only pool where only goals and assists count for forwards and D men. I'm trying to stay away from D men with my 4 1st rounders but will consider when I pick around 13th in the 2nd round. Unless someone thinks I should snag Dahlin asap. These were the guys I was looking at to draft. I know a lot can depend on where they land in the NHL, but I love hearing what people think on here. Here's my choices.

    Svechnikov or Zadina
    Rasmis Dahlin
    Brady Tkachuck
    Jesperi Kotkaniemi
    Oliver Wahlstrom

I'm going off the assumption that my friend will pick either Dahlin or Svechnikov 1st overall. D men aren't valued as high in our pool but he seems like a hard choice to pass up. If Svechnikov goes 1st, do I maybe take Zadina at 2nd and hope Dahlin is around at 4? I DON'T KNOW HAHA!

Based on my limited knowledge of 2018 prospects to this point, I would be looking at:
2nd: Dahlin then Svech - whoever is left
4th: Zadina then Tkachuk - whoever is left
    9th: Wahlstrom if he's there
13th: who knows at this point

When is your draft? Because outside of the top 4-5, I think we see a lot of movement in rankings over the next few months. No need to waste too much time thinking about it this early if it's just going to completely change by the summer anyways. (Though extra scouting never goes amiss.)

Draft is in October Haha! I'm just trying to get a leg up as I've made some bad deals in the past and I'm basically washing those away and starting from scratch. I would prefer not to have my buddy get both Svech and Zadina as he's picking 1st and 3rd respectively. That's why I'm really hoping Dahlin maybe drops to 4th so I can either get Svech or Zadina, at 2 then either Tkachuck or Dahlin at 4. If I can get two forwards, that's what I'd prefer but man, Dahlin looks good!

I was going to say the same thing. Unless you draft prior to the NHL draft, this is way too early to be concerned about your picks, especially the ones outside the top three.

True. It's very early to tell. I just like hearing what other people think.

Hard to tell much until we really know where anyone ends up.

I'd love to see B.Tkachuck in the Pacific. I'm a Flames fan and would LOVE to see him in Van or Edm. That would make for some entertaining games between them and Calgary.

I like Wahlstrom over Tkachuk in that format, it does matter where these guys end up.

While my knowledge of the draft is somewhat limited I suggest going forwards with your top picks as they're more reliable to translate their offense to the NHL than defenseman are. It's never perfect but how many top 3 forwards pan out compared to defencemen (or it takes many more years for the D to become relevant).

Top 3 picks from drafts, pick who you'd want for fantasy.

    2014:
    Ekblad, Reinhart, Draisaitl

    2015:
McDavid, Eichel, D Strome (no D drafted in top 3), top D drafted is Hanifin (5)

    2016:
Matthews, Laine, Dubois, top D drafted is Juolevi (5)

    2017:
    Hischier, Patrick, Heiskenen

All of the top skaters are playing major NHL roles already (except for Dylan Strome) whereas the defensemen have only had some but not major fantasy impact.

    Just food for thought.

if your league doesn't put value on Dmen, I'd be taking a very close look at Evan Bouchard by #9, and taking him for sure at #13 if he survived that long. I won't be surprised if he bumps his way into the top 5 of the actual NHL draft this year.

I just can't believe how top heavy this draft is with D men.
