Default What do we think about Mike Smith?

So I imagine the vast majority thought the same thing as me when he was signed. At 35 and brought in on a 2 year deal- he'd serve one year with hopefully a fair number of starts by the incumbent (they got 2 in calgary right? Gillies and Parsons?). Year 2 would be sometghing clser to a 50/30 sp,lit and then they'd hand off the reigns.

    Has that assesment change?

As of now he has played lights out (albeit behind a brilliant defense core)- and playing past your prime is a little "less" unusual for goalies. I had thought this would be his only real "quality year- but Im cautiously optimistic he even has one more soli, solid season as a workhorse undisputed number one- if this keeps up. Maybe even a short extension after that to phase in one of the youngins?

What are Flames fans and or goalie gurus thinking on this???

I think we will get another "above average" season out of him next year.

Gillies is playing decent, Parsons has been struggling. There's no reason to rush either of them at this point, especially with Rittich playing sufficiently as a backup.
