Prospect Ramblings: 2018 Draft and Fantasy Rankings, Tolvanen is Coming, and Elias Pettersson Chasing History by Cam Robinson
I have a feeling this one will get lots of views and positive feedback... as it should, it's great!
great article...
just torn on who to grab hold of...Tolvanen who i know is coming over to play this year so hes a keepable product for me, or Pettersson, who may get a game this year, however is potentially not, which makes him ineligible to keep for me and id have to draft him..
i like Pettersson over Tolvanen, so this ones tough..for me

I'm pretty sure Vancouver is not going to burn a year off Pettersson's contract. Teams are already preparing for the 2020 Seattle expansion draft, and burning a year now would mean you have to protect him there. Besides, Pettersson needs to bulk up before playing in the NHL, so better to wait until next season.

I think from the expansion draft point of view, it doesn't matter if you play 1 game or 10 games, it still counts. But I'm too lazy to check that right now. I think you're right about the first year of ELC, though.
EDIT: But also, does it make sense to Pettersson to sign a contract, travel from Sweden to Vancouver, and then just play a game or two, when it doesn't benefit his contract situation? He has the final word on that because he hasn't signed his ELC yet.
