    Default Prospects Goalies

I have been looking for a list of prospect goalies for fantasy.. Dobber has one from the fall, but i'm looking for a more updated list.

In my league we get 4 years to hold a prospect so goalies aren't drafted very often, especially all the awesome young goalies in russia who won't be coming over for a while.

Looking for an updated list to see if their is one worth holding for a year or 2 as an NA player on my bench.

Any personal lists out there? I am not having any luck with lists on google, most seem to be 4,5,6 months out dated.

Dell, Jarry, and Saros seem to be the sexy options at the moment. Heard lots of speculation that Dell could be on the move; Jarry has played well filling in the Murray's injuries; Saros seems to have the golden boy status in Nashville, he's just got to wait out Rinne's career (which could go another couple seasons). I think Saros would be my first target, then Dell and Jarry.

Dobber's list of top 100 goalies is put out every month, last one in December. Yeah, it includes NHL goalies but it also has prospects in there. (There are only 62 NHL goalies after all).

That said, I'm not high on the list myself because it appears to put more emphasis on "closest to the show" than it does on talent / upside.

I think your best bet is to read Dobber's prospect report from the summer...

I could see Demko getting starts in Vancouver next season and take over the #1 spot as early as 2019-2020.

I'm no goalie expert but here's my personal Top 10 list:

    1. Thatcher Demko (VAN), 2014, 36th, 1995-12-08, USA
    2. Ilya Samsonov (WSH), 2015, 22nd, 1997-02-22, RUS
    3. Ilya Sorokin (NYI), 2014, 78th, 1995-08-04, RUS
    4. Igor Shestyorkin (NYR), 2014, 118th, 1995-12-30, RUS
    5. Tristan Jarry (PIT), 2013, 44th, 1995-04-29, CAN
    6. Juuse Saros (NSH), 2013, 99th, 1995-04-19, FIN
    7. Carter Hart (PHI), 2016, 48th, 1998-08-13, CAN
    8. Filip Gustavsson (PIT), 2016, 55th, 1998-06-07, SWE
    9. Jake Oettinger (DAL), 2017, 26th, 1998-12-18, USA
    10. Michael DiPietro (VAN), 2017, 64th, 1999-06-09, CAN

I mostly focus on talent and less about closeness to the NHL or team situation as I think teams will make room if the prospect is good enough.

Both Gillies and Parsons are on my Top 20. I guess next someone is going to ask about David Rittich.

What would you say the likelihood is that Calgary runs with one of the kids if Smith misses time? Is that the bump they need to really shine, or do you think they're still at a point in their development that that might hurt more than it helps?

Parsons has played below average in both the AHL and ECHL this year, so I don't think he goes anywhere near the NHL unless a plague hits the goalies ahead of him.

I think they let Rittich play himself out of a job and spot start Gillies or trade for a back up.

Gillies is already 24 years old, so he really should be ready to play at the NHL level but I haven't been watching the Calgary goalie situation closely enough to really comment on that. tcat's reply makes a lot of sense to me.

Parsons is in his first year as a pro. Patience required there. I wouldn't put much stock in ECHL numbers for young goalies.

More immediately, how about Ville Husso? Allen's been a bit shaky this year and Husso's turning in another gem of a season.

Demko was already mentioned but I'll add his name in again. This is a guy who's going to take the starting job suddenly. It could even happen next year and once it's his, I really don't see him losing it. Expect he's a dude whose value will explode without warning.

Also, surprised nobody's mentioned Carter Hart. Guy's had a junior campaign that hasn't been seen since Carey Price. Philly is dying to get their hands on a legitimate starter and he's in their plan. If everything goes right, I would expect maybe a season and a half at the AHL level before he gets to the show and starts battling for starts. Of course, he could fall flat on his face at the pro level, but what he's accomplished this year seems to have NHL talent written all over it.

I had Hart #7 on my list but I'd expect more like 2 or 3 seasons in the AHL. Even elite goalie prospects like Demko usually need that much time before they can make an impact in the NHL.

Husso had major attitude issues earlier in his career. He was a star prospect as a young kid but didn't focus on his development because he thought he was already a star at age 16. When he didn't get drafted in 2013, that was a game-changer for him. I'm glad to see he got his career back on track after wasting a couple of very important development years as a young kid.
