No one is allowed to make any metaphorical references in this thread if it means saying any player’s name other than Duclair. Thank you.

very strange situation for the GM to be talking about closed doors and all that

clearly whatever is happening in Arizona did not mesh well with Duclair

going public with the trade request is also problematic

considering the nature of the situation I'd say the Coyotes didn't do too badly
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Especially since, from what I recall, the asking price last season was a 2nd rounder. This might not have been the return they were looking for, but it's still a decent return for a player who had reached the end of the line in Arizona.

By acquiring Duclair & his $1.2M cap hit, while trading away Panik & his $2.8M cap hit, the #Blackhawks reduce their overall salary cap number by $1.6M which they can now use down the road.

Not to mention... there's the real chance that Duclair responds to a playoff race and getting out of Arizona. Some serious upside here having a skilled, fast winger.

I'm torn on this deal from Arizona's perspective. They obviously need a lot of their young players to exceed expectations and push their team to a better place. This included Duclair, and there's not much upside with a guy like Panik. On the other hand, they have other young players coming up and Panik could be an important depth scorer to help support them. I lean more towards thinking they did a poor job getting more out of Duclair when they need to be hitting home runs with these prospects. At least trade him when he has value.
