I've been playing fantasy hockey (and running leagues) since 2000. Wondering if I am the only person who thinks a week is too long for a fantasy game. After all, a real hockey team plays much more often, like 2-4 times a week.
I would like to try out a new concept: a league where each game lasts 2-3 days (2 if there are 15+ real games played during that time, 3 if not). Basically, a typical schedule would include 3 games per week (two 2-day games and one 3-day one). From January 8 to the end of this regular season, we could play 37 games.
Team Roster: 20 players not including IR+ (3 players).
A lineup for a game: 11 players (G, D, D, D, D, LW, LW, C, C, RW, RW).
Categories: G, A, P, +/-, PIM, PPP, GAA, Sav%, Wins.
(NOTE: if one team, for some reason, can't field a Goalie, the other team (which can) will only win GAA if the goalie gets 3.00 or better, and will only win Sav% if he gets .900 or better).
Trades: unlimited until trade deadline (same as in NHL).
Free agent signings: unlimited (dropped players go on waivers for 24 hours).
A win in a game will give you 2 points, a tie will give you 1 point. If the number of points is the same, the first tiebreaker is the goal difference.
If a player's real team plays 2 games during the game period (2 or 3 days), his stats will only count for one of them (you gotta choose which one in advance).
The playoff picture will be more clear when we see how many teams we have (the absolute minimum is 6, which would mean 4 playoff teams).
Now, the software... For all player movements (draft, trades, adds/drops, lineup changes) we can use Yahoo Fantasy Hockey, where we can create a simple roto league with all the aforementioned categories. The trick will be to calculate game scores, which will be done either by special code I can write or manually.
For game score updates and league banter we can use a thread here on Dobber Forum, or even create a Facebook group.
But all that will happen only if there is any interest in a league like this...

I may be interested too, took over a team in an existing league this year but very little activity in it so likely looking for a league to join.

Alright, two more and we're doing it!
Neat idea, while I'm not interested in joining, I'm in a league currently with similar goals. We use fantrax (allows for custom periods, scoring, etc), and play 2 matchups a week. Increasing the matchups done every week is a decent substitute for shorter period lengths I think. Plus doesn't give you goalie issues.

I did notice the Fantrax semi-weekly option, thanks. But it's a premium one.
