Werenski and why the NHL is a joke

I?ve maintained that the NHL will never be taken seriously by bettors, thereby driving down interest in games, because of their policy on not disclosing injuries. Case in point, Zach Werenski to miss his 3 straight game with an undisclosed ailment.

Third game in a row he’s out with no explanation as to what the injury is.

but football tells you the injuries, you don't know how serious, the player plays - you find out later it's a torn this or that... and can only run 1/2 speed. i'm not sure that's any better

Does it really matter what the injury is? If he's unable to play he's unable to play no matter what the issue is.

It all started with Youngblood when Deaner had the stitches and Sutton cut them out because “if they see those stitches in Thunder Bay they’ll try to open you up again.” Same principle here. If it makes sense to Derek Sutton it makes sense to me!!

It does to the degree that you are faced with a decision of trying to determine if you need to find a fill in off of the wire for a longer term injury or wait out the d2d. The problem with NHL "day to days" is sometimes it results in guys being out for a few weeks with that designation. In my league you can't IR guys who are officially only d2d. So now he's been out 3 games, no timetable for his return and I can't IR him in my league so I have to weigh whether to cut a young gun like Heinen to get what's left on the WW to fill in for Werenski while he's out.

I don't really think there is a correlation between disclosing injuries and the amount of betting on the sport. Hockey is the biggest team game out of the big 4 sports so one injury often won't have as big of an effect as one might in football or baseball.

You might be right about the betting, I don't know, I just think that it's difficult to set betting lines if you aren't sure of the status of a key player or a star player.

the update on Wenneberg for Saturday's game was "unclear" if he would play or not. We now learn today he's out 4-6 weeks I believe. So maddening.
