this seems so odd that they would do this mid-season?
Well, this is very interesting. There's been talks about both guys signing an NHL contract after this season, so I'm not sure how this changes things for them. They're free agents now but I believe they'd have to pass through waivers to play in the NHL, right?
Russian Prospects @RUSProspects
KHL contracts of 22yo LW Vladimir Tkachyov and 23yo GK Ivan Nalimov (#Blackhawks prospect) are now officially terminated.Tkachyov has 14 goals and 30 points in 36 games. Only 10 players in the league have more goals than him, and Eeli Tolvanen is the only U24 player with more goals than him. His 0.83 points-per-game puts him tied for 20th best in the league, and Kirill Kaprizov is the only U24 player with better points-per-game than him. Tkachyov has been quite easily the best player on his team, and hasn't been playing on a powerhouse team by any means. If I understood correctly their previous KHL team, Admiral Vladivostok didn't pay them for the last 2 months.
Nalimov has been sharing the crease with former Anaheim prospect Igor Bobkov. 1.98 GAA, .942 SV% in 17 games - those are excellent numbers.
In very deep leagues, they're both worth a flyer if it doesn't cost you anything.
EDIT: For those of you in Fantrax leagues, Fantrax writes Tkachyov's name as "Tkachev". They have him listed under Edmonton but no NHL team owns his rights as his contract back then was nullified by the NHL. Here are some links for him: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=211956 and https://en.khl.ru/players/19014/

Any insight on what Tkachyov/Tkachev's game play is like?

Great Info Jouko, will be interesting to see if they sign in NHL. Better be quick on the gun in your leagues if they sign.

Unfortunately Tkachyov's contact is until the summer of 2019, so he's not coming to North America after this season.

Two ex-Admiral players nave singed a deal with Salavat Yulaev:
? Vladimir Tkachyov, 22, 36 GP, 14 G (1st in team), 30 Pts (1st), till the end of 2018-19.
? Dmitry Sayustov, 29, 30 GP, 12 G (2nd), 17 Pts (5th), till the end of 2017-18.
I had googled it a few times but never caught wind of Nalimov signing anywhere until I saw it in an article at the Athletic today. Playing the long game: Blackhawks believe Russian prospects will be worth the wait
Nalimov’s NHL timetable is also undetermined. He had his contract with Admiral voided recently and signed a two-year deal with Salavat Yulaev. Nalimov’s agent, Shumi Babaev, said he believes Nalimov will sign with the Blackhawks after his contract expires.
