    They better be.

If I was running the Jays, I'd be scouring the league for ground ball pitchers who are available.
They're going after Cole and/or Archer now. So Gray, Sev, Cole, Montgomery, Tanaka....pretty volatile but high pedigree.

Stroman, Biagini, Sanchez...They've made their own already. Not saying Biagini is anything amazing. But the Jays have focused on groundball pitching as their core for a while. Happ is their K guy and he's not really a K guy, he throws strikes, but he's a 8-9k/9ip guy. Estrada is their flyball, which could suck vs the Yankees lol.

They're pushing Ozuna out more than Yelich actually. But both are on the block. Yelich has a sick contract that’s why.
    2018 7mill, 2019 9.75mill, 2020 12.5mill, 2021 14mill, 2022 team option 15mill

Ozuna is Arbitration eligible (his agent is Scott Boras too)
2018 10.9mill (guess from MLBtradeRumour website), 2019 arbitration eligible, 2020 FA.

Good for them that they can afford to do this but as a Jays fan, this stinks.

The trade itself is just bad. Considering you can get quality prospects for middle relievers, what the Marlins got in return for Stanton is just embarrassing. I get it, the Marlins will say it was a salary dump and that few teams were willing to take on that contract, but the fact that they simply got a good 2B (who I expect will be traded before long himself because he's due something like $24M next year) and a couple mid-level prospects is a sham.

Once again, I am embarrassed for the Marlins and their fans, if any of them are left now.
With the contract and the restrictive no-trade clause, the Yankees were basically bidding against no one. It's a shitty trade, but I don't believe it was "collusion" as some are suggesting.

I don't think it wss collusion either although many are thinking this because of Jeter and his involvement with the Marlins organization now.

In a roundabout way, yes. The Marlins wanted to shed Stanton's salary; there was no questioning that. I think many are looking at this and see it as a win-win for Jeter. He clears that monster contract and helps his old team at the same time.

My issue is it seemed rushed. They still had tons of time.

not really any different than in other sports where previous players/managers make trades with their old organization - just ask Brian Burke - Anh. or when Yzerman flipped Quincey to Det minutes after acquiring him.

When do they have to start paying him money?

Just going back to Yelich for a second, I don't think he gets moved. Contract is too good, and they will need to keep someone. I do think we see Ozuna moved, likely to whoever of SF/ARZ that loses out on JD Martinez.

I agree, I doubt he goes anywhere as well. I was just hoping and pipe dreaming.
