Not a surprise but Robin Lehner is not on Vegas' training camp roster

Once again, Vegas gets the "golden" ticket from the NHL as far as cap relief goes. What a joke.

Sources say a resolution has been reached on Robin Lehner situation with @GoldenKnights.

Lehner will NOT be on Vegas’ salary cap this season. Believe Lehner will still be paid.

Big win for the Golden Knights, who likely will not have to operate in LTIR to start the season.
Does this mean Mark Stone doesn't have to get hurt before the trade deadline this season?

So I disliked it initially, but apparently the VGK had a real good case to completely void the deal and not pay Lehner at all and have the cap hit lifted. So they decided to make it easy on everyone and just have the cap hit removed as they didn't care about the actual money.

Still tho, horribly biased looking. But if I'm Philly, Utah, or MTL I'm 100% exploring this route for Weber, Ellis and Price. However, it might be insurance based why they don't want the cap hit voided, as I would assume if he's getting paid, but not on LTIR, insurance wouldn't pay for it.

It's not affecting the Habs this year and then Price only has one more year. No one major has to get paid next summer so I don't think they are too worried.

Remember back to the initial reporting when Lehner said everyone knew he wouldn't be showing up. This was pretty clearly orchestrated.

I like this from the player perspective, Lehner gets his money and doesn't have to travel to go through the charade of the physical everyone knows he won't pass.

I dislike it from a competitive fairness balance. It's pretty easy to overreact with the lizard brain whether something is fair or not. Vegas is getting a break, other teams have gotten the hammer under similar circumstances. This is clearly "money outside the system" which the league is typically against. But it's not without precedent. The Sharks with Kane for instance.

File this under another reason to sports dislike Vegas. Which I am irrationally enjoying.
