    Default New faceoff rules

Watching the Leafs vs Sens game and seeing this new face off violation rule for the first time. I must say, it's garbage. I don't trust the damn linesmen to drop the puck as it is with any consistency, now teams are getting a 2 min penalty if the 2nd guy in also gets booted?

I can see this pissing off coach after coach in the NHL this season. Who in gods name thought this was a good rule to implement? Geez.

Wasn't this a rule last year? I'm pretty sure I saw it called a few times.

@ AXE - you may want to give it more that one period before passing judgement. HAHAHA

    ................................

EDIT: To be fair I have not watched a game yet.

EDIT 2 : The Avalanche went 6-0 in the 2016 preseason, allowing only five goals. Don't pretend that the pre-season resembles anything close to the regular season.

Pretty sure it was also in effect last year. Linesmen don't want to call it any more than the players want to have it called on them

What hockey really needs is tired players deliberately screwing up 25 face offs in a row so they can get a rest lol

But more seriously, the pre-season is often reffed way more strict than the regular season....

As with all pre season games the refs look like they are calling it harder hoping it means players learn come season start date... Let's see if they are still calling it with the same gusto in November...

They're being stricter with booting guys from the draw but the minor penalty is not new.

Click on the link above. It's a new rule.

Having trouble adjusting to the NHL’s new faceoff violation rule? You’re not alone.

The league decided to implement stricter enforcement of the faceoff procedure over the summer, which can be found under Section 10 (titled “Game Flow”) in the official NHL Rulebook.

This is what you mentioned in the first post. The penalty has always been a thing for the 2nd guy thrown out. Holy stubborn lol

The new rule is using your feet to win the draw. And it was super annoying to watch them get called on it because it's such a natural movement for these guys now. Moore was getting killed on this and he's the Leafs "Face-off Guy" now, or he was signed to be.

This - they're checking boxes. You'll see it less once the regular season comes, then not at all in the playoffs.

Its not a new rule, even Babcock said in his interview, that it was a rule before but not enforced until now.
