Mining is definitely out of the question.

Im not even interested in investing long term but rather using it as a trading vehicle.

Im not sure how I feel about it long term.

They are saying Ethereum is going to surpass Bitcoin. Ethereum was made by a Canadian-Russian. I wonder if there's a significant risk in the creation of many other digital currencies, which could saturate the market for them. Also, although payments can be made with Bitcoin, it's not well-adopted enough for it to be considered a currency. Right now it's an asset like gold.

Another interesting thing is that company's have started to accept coins to raise capital. They're called Initial Coin Offerings as opposed to IPO's and are apparently gaining popularity in tech.

They say anything and everything. Best not to listen to any of it.

If by listen you mean act upon, sure. It wasn't clear in my post but what I meant was Ether is supposedly going to become more widespread in use and user base than Bitcoin. I did not mean in terms of market rate. I don't invest in any of this anyway - just sitting on the sidelines and commenting on the phenomenon that it is.

I see what you're saying, but when you say "it's supposedly going to ____", I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. Some people surely do believe that Etherium will beat out Bitcoin, but others believe the opposite, and both sides preach their positions like gospel. "Supposedly"... according to who?

I am about as far from an expert as is possible, but many of the arguments in the above articles are hard to deny - Ethereum's blockchain technology seems to aim to serve a much broader range of purposes and Ether already represents 1/4 of the cryptocurrency market comprised of ~800 variants. There are multiple names and quotes in those articles if you're interested in who's opinion I'm basing the word 'supposedly' on... I don't think it really matters, anyway, which becomes more predominant, and it doesn't seem to be certain - I am simply making discussion.

Hold on to your hat mate! Could be a bumpy ride. You had a set entry point, do you have a set exit price?
