Just shows the landscape of the game is always changing and your thoughts and beliefs will obviously change throughout time. It's always hard predicting a player 4-5 years down the line. I know 90% of the hockey writers/scouts were wrong on Nail Yakupov for example. But, I would take MacKinnon in any league setting at the moment but I think Pastrnak's value right now isn't all that far off. Two great players with great futures head of them.

Love it.
So glad I kept Mackinnon two years ago. Was close to trading him but won my league this year in no small part to his dominance and cap value.
In a cap league, there is not a more valuable player. I would literally draft him #1 in a league that uses real salary (like mine).

I'm just happy to see that I was one of the few who had no issues taking the MacKinnon side.

I thought about this thread... it has been 3 years.
Last 3 years:
MacKinnon: 97-99-93
Pastrnak: 80-81-95
MacK won 2 out of 3 years, woohoo... with Pastrnak barely (barely!, 1.36ppg vs 1.35ppg) edging him last year in a shortened up NHL season.
I will say... Pastrnak is ONE HELL OF A PLAYER... and I was totally wrong on that!!! Dude generates offense all on his own!
But good to see that the "eye test" on MacKinnon panned out.
Real.Deal.
Winner winner, chicken dinner!

This one was always my favorite reply.
A lot of people took Pastrnak because he played on the better team and felt MacKinnon, who played on one of the worst teams in the league at the time of this post, didnt have the supporting cast to help him get to the next level. What many didnt realize is that MacKinnon brought others up to his level because he's that good, making the Avalanche into the team you see today.

TRIPLE BUMP... teehee... MacKinnon FTW - AGAIN!
(Bad Pengwin - says SteveGamer)
This year:
MacKinnon: 65pts in 48gp
Pastrank: 48pts in 48gp

This was a fun read.
Funny thing... the Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak line has been THE line for the past 5 years in the NHL.
So... I kind of qualified I'd pick Pastrnak if he stayed on that line! LOL. What do I know!?! Ugh.
So I got that part really, really, really REALLY wrong.
Love both these guys.
Just a fun thread to re-visit... how good both these guys turned out.
