That Byron Black Wings in the GDHL must really know his OHL prospects with picking Morgan Frost, Alex Formenton and Adam Ruzicka. 😉

Would be interesting to see what categories count in this league. MIRO HEISKANEN fell a bit compared to the other posted draft; I'm wondering if the categories played some role. Or perhaps D-men have a lower value. Interesting info, nonetheless.

no one gambling on Shipachyov? or is he out of the scope of the drafts? He is fair game in all 4 of my drafts.

Skater Categories (9) - G, A, Pts, PIM, PPP, SOG, FOW, HIT, BLK

    Goalie Categories (5) - W, SV%, SO, GAA, Saves

Just because Heiskanen's a highly ranked Dman for the draft doesn't mean he will be a great fantasy asset. Keep in mind as well, the same team picked four in a row and Heiskanen was one of his picks early in the 2nd round. If he hadn't been taken with one of those four picks in the 2nd round, I was next on the clock (18th overall) and I wasn't taking him.

Draft prospects only in our draft. Shipachyov would have come in our league as a FA.

Jesus -- Heiskanen falling past 7th overall in any league is surprising never mind all the way down to 18th - what a steal. He is going to be an all-around stud and might be the most NHL ready to boot...

I think Heiskanen falling in our league is also partially since it's a cap league. With well rounded defencemen being paid so much, and producing less offensively, they lose a fair bit of value. I wouldn't bank on him falling that far in every league, but it does happen.

Its not even truly "cap"... its "actual salary" league - not sure if that was listed.
Which means that if a guy has REAL-top-level-NHL value, they'll get paid that... and not be worth their fantasy value.

Three years ago, I drafted Aaron Ekblad in the first round.
He doesn't really HIT or BLK much, two categories in this league.
His fantasy value in this league is moderate... and his promise was so good that Florida gave him that ridiculous contract.
He's getting $9m every other year for next 5 years.
I can't give this guy away now... in his 4th NHL pro year!!! (can't.give.him.away)

He's probably a $4m or $5m value player by fantasy stats.
I won't even roster him at $9m for next year.
    Can you imagine that?
A fantasy format where you just bench Aaron Ekblad for the entire year?!!!

Shea Weber was actually benched for his $13m seasons.
Not worth it. And Weber is a HIT/BLK monster (something that Ekblad and Heiskanen are not).

Heiskanen, from what I've heard, is a more cerebral, Lidstrom-lite type player.
And if he's anything like that - he's indeed going to get PAID after his 3yr ELC... and still not have fantasy stats to justify his salary.
This is why the cerebral-type defensemen are tough in fantasy - nothing really captures their actual NHL value.

Our league also doesn't include +/- or anything like that (where Lidstrom's value actually showed up fantasy-wise).
So... I'd say Heiskanen, in our format, to 17th - after knowing how Ekblad went - is pretty much a good spot.

[Also - FWIW, the GM in our league that took Heiskanen had picks 14, 15, 16, 17.... so Heiskanen could also be considered the 14th pick. Two GMs shared picks 11, 12, 13... and Makar went 10th. So, I'd say Heiskanen could be valued as high as 11th overall, with two GMs simply not trusting D-performance-value... which is REAL, as shown above with Ekblad.]

This is a 22 team sim league going into year 15 or so. The draft is about half way complete but thought I would post it here anyway

Stand up defensive players are at more of a premium than your standard fantasy league but other than that its about talent and "upside"
