Default [Report] Hawks about to trade core piece?

From Jay Zawaski (Executive Producer, Host, Hockey Columnist at 670 The Score in Chicago):

    Jay Zawaski‏ @JayZawaski670
Lots of smoke around the Hawks tonight. Texts w several sources have me in "hold on to your butt" mode. Good chance core guy is moved soon.
    Jay Zawaski‏ @JayZawaski670
Aside from it definitely NOT being Toews, that's all I know at the moment.
    Jay Zawaski‏ @JayZawaski670
Was also told to not expect the deal to make the team better at the moment. Could mean cap dump and/or prospect load up. Not sure which.
    Jay Zawaski‏ @JayZawaski670
I have no clear indication a deal is coming tonight.

Also, my headline should have a question mark after the word piece.

Seabrook to Dallas for something including the 3rd overall pick?

(just a shot in the dark)

I can't see them moving Kane, Panarin or Crawford. Keith?

My guess is Seabrook. They've seemed to focus their efforts on signing defense the past couple weeks probably with the idea of moving Seabrook.

By trading Darling, we can guarantee it won't be Crawford on the move.

Also, considering how shallow their D is outside of Keith and Seabrook, I have a hard time seeing it being one of those two.

It has to be a forward but then it goes down to who you consider to be a "core piece".

In my opinion, their core pieces are the three I already mentioned along with Toews, Kane and Panarin but who do the Blackhawks consider to be a "core piece". Is Anisimov a core piece to them? Is Hossa still a core piece to them?

Hossa is the guy I can see them wanting to move to clear cap but other than that, I don't know.

He would be my choice too. Great dman with enough value for a defensively lacking team to give up a decent pick.

Seabrook is also making $6.875 million for the next seven years. It's going to be tough to move that contract and get a decent return.

    I agree with this.

Zawaski has been saying this for a while now both on the air and in his weekly podcast (a decent podcast by the way).

The reason I think it's Panarin is:
    a) He doesn't have a NTC unlike everyone else on the Hawks.
    b) 6 M for the next 2 seasons is somewhat of a bargain
    c) The Hawks have wingers to replace Panarin. No, not 70 pts per season players but guys you can envision being in the top 6.
    d) He has been invisible in the playoffs the past 2 seasons.
    e) Kane doesn't need him. Look at some of the linemates Kane has had over the years. Toews needs help, Kane doesn't.

Why it isn't Seabrook or Hossa:
    a) Have you looked at Seabrook's decline in play AND his 6.875 cap hit for the next 7 years? That contract will be ugly fast if it isn't already. Seabrook does not have much value AND you would be creating a hole that the Hawks have no one to fill. Seabrook is barely a top 4 dman right now but he is the best the Hawks have after Keith and Hammer.
    b) Hossa's salary goes to 1 M so he becomes a value albeit at a high cap hit. Hossa had a bounceback year last and he is very useful. LOL- Maybe Ottawa wants him back.
    c) If Hossa retires early (he has 4 more years left on his contract), the ridiculous cap recapture goes back to the Hawks and not the team he would be traded to. If the Hawks keep him in the fold, they can either incentivize him to stay or at least play games with LTIR.
    d) Hossa and Seabrook will be bought out after the next lockout.

I think the candidates to be traded are Panarin, Anisimov, and possibly Kane. Why Kane? The image-conscious Hawks are still angry about the rape incident a couple seasons ago. Maybe a 1% chance.

We'll see. I thought the Hawks would still be playing right now so what do I know?

I see the Hawks trading Panarin for a cost-controlled top 4 dman. One of young studs on Carolina, Vatanen, Hamonic, or Trouba are all the type of guys I could see the Hawks trading Panarin for. Sure, you can pick apart why certain trades wouldn't work but you get the gist of what I am suggesting.

Seabrook would seem like the most likely from my pov but his contract , woof woof in a few more years .

leafs could send a young buck ready to play in 17/18 that doesnt require protection (k.kapanen , for example) & the leafs have the coin to buyout seabrook down the road

Panarin and Hjalmarsson are the easiest guys to trade based on contract/NTC status.

Crawford also a possibility but I don't see them getting the kind of value they would get for the other two because of the saturated goalie market.

Should be interesting. Whatever happens I am sure me and my fellow hawks fans will be shedding some tears. Damn you, salary cap... damn you.

Bet on being Seabrook , Hawks need to free up cap space, his D helps win cups.
