It gets less close if you compare Hellebuyck's career numbers (2.62 GAA & .912 sv%) to Pavelec's (2.86 GAA, .907 sv%). Hellebuyck's 61 games is still a small sample size, sure... but generally wouldn't you expect sub-par performance over one's first 61 games since it is when they are acclimating to a more difficult level of competition?
I realize that this is completely besides the point, but such was certainly the case over Pavelec's first 61 games from 2007-2010, where he put up a 3.33 GAA and .902 save%.
To be clear, I'm not arguing a point anymore or saying that anyone is wrong with their points. I'm just throwing out more stats that I think show that Hellebuyck is already a better goalie than Pavelec, because it makes me feel better about the frustration of him not at least splitting starts lately. lol
