    The problems are:
    1) Finding someone who wants (or more accurately, "is willing to take") Hossa at his cap hit
and 2) Getting Hossa to agree to waiving his full no trade / no move clause.

The only teams willing to take that cap hit on would be bottom feeders, and why would Hossa want to play out the rest of his career on a crap team?
You just explained why they can't move him. I didn't mean it literally.

The entire point of the Hawks paying 6 x 6 for him now is that they believe he WILL score the way he did last year and they want to get a bargain contract by paying earlier. Don't you think he would get an offer of $7.5mil + from someone if he hit the open market after consecutive 77 point seasons?

Obviously you do not pay him 6 x 6 after one season if you don't believe he is 100% capable of playing at that high level going forward. Signing him for that much after one season is a high risk high reward move. People who believe he will continue to be a 70+ point player would give him 6 x 6 and focus on the reward, while people who believe he won't would not give him 6 x 6 because they focus on the risk. Neither approach is inherently wrong, but ultimately one will be proved right by the test of time.

Precisely. Especially because in the Hawks' situation they can't afford to pay more later. It is either seal him up now for 6 x 6 or take a serious gamble that he walks later for more money. Only way I take that chance if I am Bowman is if I don't think he is legit.
I think he could sign 6 x 6 after two years of 70 points

He will be an unrestricted free agent (Edit: scratch that. restricted free agent. dunno what I was thinking). You don't think any other team would throw considerably more than $6mil/year at a guy who scored 77 points in consecutive years? Forsberg, Huberdeau, and Saad just got 6 x 6 and none of them have even broken 70 points once. Edit: I realize that offer sheets are uncommon, but I feel pretty strongly that he would get some serious offer sheets in this scenario. Especially since teams know the Hawks are bent over the salary cap barrel.

I am having serious trouble understanding how you could come to this conclusion. I am starting to wonder if you are just trolling me...

So that's what you think Gaudreau will and should sign at?

15 points in 14 games so far... not playing with Kane much at even strength. Really think Hawks should have given him the $6M x 6.

He was worth it after the one great season. They should definitely pony up

Most Hawk fans who watched Panarin play all last year said to sign him to the 6*6. It was the stat and highlight watchers who mostly said to make him prove it again.

Anyone suggest the Hawks are waiting to see who gets taken off their team? Maybe hoping it’s Kruger to free up 3+mill?

Toews, Kane, Hossa, Anisimov, Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson are all NMC. So they have room for 1 more D, or 3 more F.

This is most likely Kruger's last season with the Blackhawks whether through a trade or the expansion draft. Those 3 M will go towards Panarin's extension.

Trouba and _______ for Panarin and Kempny?

Chicago is going to be in tough if they sign him for that much... maybe that means Hossa would be on his way out.
Trading within the division is very hard to do.. I don't think the Jets want to trade trouba to a team they see 6 times in a season..

    Stranger things have happened though..

Panarin now leading Hawks in scoring with 32 pts in 33 games. Kane has 31.

That's 5th and 6th in NHL scoring, for anyone who is counting.

I said sign to 6*6 asap.

It was the "regression" ones that said to wait. Hell, I said he was a good buy candidate since everyone thought the his 78 pts last year were fluke and I didn't.

It would be stupid for Chicago to go the 8 skaters 1 goalie route.

I think it's obvious they have to go the 7F 3D 1G route.

They have room to protect 3F now but as of right now they can only protect Kruger Panik and Hartman. Everyone else isn't eligible. As of right now.

So maybe they do go the 8 skater 1 goalie route? Then they could protect one of Kruger Panik and/or Hartman and expose Kruger IF they wanted.

They have to move Kruger this offseason whether it is losing him in the draft or through a trade. His 3 M has to go to Panarin.
