    Default Stepan vs E. Kane

Roto keeper salary cap league - G,A,+/-,PIM,PPP,SHP,SOG (with Hits being added in 2017).

I own both but can only keep 1. Stepan's cap hit is $1.25M higher than Kane.

Who do you like, for not only this season but 17/18 when Hits come in to play?

EKane should be the better player for this format, but I avoid him at all costs. He always finds a way to underwhelm.

    Stepan for me.

    STepan for sure.
He is sure to be top line and top PP.

Even if he is 2nd... he will get a lot of ice time and over 50 pts

Kane... 30 pts ? 40 pts ? 50 Pts ? we never know with him.

Stepan will perform nicely in this setup.
Kane will not. He will miss games, maybe have more legal issues et al.

I traded a 2018 3rd rounder for E. Kane hoping he will get at minimum a 20-25 season. Stepan should be around there also.. Stepan has more value in that format... I would say Kane if league incuded hits like mine does.

You're getting bad advice based on emotion, sorry guys. With hits out of the picture, you're looking at a tradeoff of

16 assists, +10, 10 PPP (Stepan) for 65 PIM, 60 SOG (Kane). That's pretty close to a wash, maybe slightly favouring Stepan.

But with hits in there, you're also getting another 140 hits on the Kane side... that tips it over pretty solidly. That's assuming Stepan is a 64 point player and Kane is a 46 point player. If Kane has any upside on that 46 points, you're laughing and it becomes a runaway.

I was honest with him though when I told him I avoid him at all costs and that I recommended Stepan based on previous experience with EKane. I got tired of getting disappointed and he will too.

I agree with FHG and Axeman. Kane is the one to pick based on the numbers, but you can't make me, so I go Stepan.

Ha thanks boys, this is great. True that even with Kane at 65 games, he still piles it up in some categories, and even hits SHP. Coming in with Hits he'll be huge, and if he can play 82 games and/or get his shit together he will be elite.
However, I paid a lot for him 3 years ago and have been waiting and wishing since then, and don't know if I'm crazy, or if it's time to move on and cut my losses.
This is all great banter and I appreciate the opinions!

With no hits this year, Stepan is slightly ahead, assuming Kane just misses his usual amount of time due to injuries.

Sooner rather than later, Kane is going to be out of the league. Kane can't stay healthy, and his hockey player status helps him avoid jail. I'd toss him back, and if you really want him as opposed to other players where the risk is in how they produce versus how they stay on the ice, then get him. However, you can probably get similar risk versus reward options at cheaper cap hits.
