Default Giroux vs Scheifele this year

For this upcoming year, who do you like better? Giroux had a down year, but he's had a couple of those in a row. Scheifele looks poised for a breakout. I see them as likely to score at a similar rate this year.

This is for a 10 team, points only, keep 7 head to head league.

    Thanks!

Giroux... you know what his floor is...

What if Scheifele has a bad year...we do not know what his floor is yet.

And Girouxs numbers in the second half were better, now that he is accustomed to the new coach... I expect a bounce-back year for Giroux.

I got Claude Giroux. In Stuntman's 1st edition fantasy hockey pool guide 2016/17 Giroux is ranked 20th and Schiefele is ranked 28th. Scheifele has a lower floor than Giroux.

Not sure what bad years in a row you are referring too.

He's had slow starts in the past and last year was clearly an outlier to his normal out put.

I'm not sure where this mentality has come from that Giroux is no longer a top fantasy performer.

Thanks! I'm mostly just referring to the fact that 73 and 67 points are not 80 and 90 points. At his age, he's likely past his peak and I'm wondering if it's a trend. 65 to 75 points is great, but it's not 80+.

I think the important thing to remember about Giroux is that while he's had a couple of "down years", it's that his "down years" are what most players would say are good years. And he's shown he has the upside for more.

When comparing Scheifele to Giroux I really don't see anything that would make me believe that there's a reason to not take Giroux. Not only is Giroux a great passer and playmaker, but he also isn't afraid to shoot the puck which is hard to find in a fantasy asset. Not only does he generate many chances for his team but he also is capable of getting himself scoring chances - he's just that good (and yes I know it's a points only league but I'm just citing his SOG numbers for context that he can pile on the assists and score goals)

That's not to say that Scheifele is any slouch but why consider dealing player A for player B hoping that guy will hit player A's level

All of the above. Giroux all the way, though I will say that Scheifele's SOG total will increase this season. I expect an additional 40 shots taken over last years total (which was 194) which will drive up his pts total by as much as 5-10. But Giroux is just the better player, hands down.

You have to go with Giroux because as other have said he's the right choice "on paper". That being said, if Giroux has another down year I think it could be time to start talking about him being at risk of an Eric Staal 2.0 trajectory.

    Giroux all the way here.

Many people are forgetting that Giroux has been dealing with injuries during these past two "down" years. He just finished rehabbing from post-season hip surgery that affected him all year last year. The season previous he had wrist surgery that erased his preseason. It then took him about a quarter season to shake the rust off.

Giroux is elite and his past two years are his floor stats. Schiefele looks golden but his floor isn't quite known. Take the known quantity.

If you look at Voracek's seasonal stats he seems to flip back and forth from big year to down year, big year to down year. If it holds true Voracek will have a big year and Giroux will be a key component in that success. Give me Giroux FTW.
