I thought that before the non-waiver deadline they could be, but not if they were traded for after the non waiver deadline.
Either way he's a nice option to give some rest to Martin without having to give Thole extra time.

So bottom line is he should be our backup for the postseason, correct?

I don't doubt them. They may have bungled the Sanchez situation, but that is a whole other debate. It's more so the uninformed fan and the media that harp on the management. I spend a lot of my day driving around construction sites, listening to the Fan590 or TSN1050, and they very often get on the management. That's all I was trying to say.

Thole isn't getting released until Dickey stops pitching, which will be as soon as Oct rolls around. It does give us the option to still have a backup catcher on the bench when Thole is starting, and you have Martin at DH.
Not sure about being suggested by the players, but it definitely helps that they all know him. I think the fact Semptember roster expansion is close may have had a part in it too. That way it's easy to carry three catchers.

Nah I was just guessing at some possibilities.
I know he's a good clubhouse guy and it will be good taking him into the post season over Thole.
Not to mention they can now give Martin some legit rest.

DN can play in the playoffs. He’ll catch for Estrada. Thole will resign (likely) for Dickeys next start. I believe Dickey will have Martin Catching him on later starts.

Backup catcher who can hit, switch bat, clutch hitter. He’s what the Jays needed on the deadline.
