Between the injury and the Leafs signing Kadri for six years, I just went from 80% confidence that the Leafs would sign him, to about 50%. He'll only sign if he agrees to be a winger, which I don't think he will. Or maybe the Leafs will let him be center and make Matthews a winger. And when matthews is ready, they swap in a couple of years

Maybe crazy talk, or just spinning the wheels, but if the Wings can move Datsyuk's contract I see Ken Holland making a big splash here and drive hard for Stamkos.

Am I missing something here? Why is there such confidence that Toronto will win the lottery for first overall. They only have a 20% chance. Or am I wrong in my interpretation of the lottery? Or are we simply looking at 'if they get Matthews and Stamkos, how will it shake out' scenarios?

Odds have gone down on Toronto. With Babcock around, they don't need Stamkos to be a saviour. He would fit very well into the Montreal lineup, though Buffalo is another very possible landing spot.

I know most will say Toronto but I really don't think the Leafs will give the money that Stamkos wants. I don't know much about each teams cap situations but my guess would be he signs with one of Detroit, Minnesota, Florida.

no way toronto gets matthews. just isn't going to happen. i think there's a bigger chance they fall out of top 3 than land 1st overall.

as for stamkos, the kadri signing definitely hurts his chances signing. no idea where he ends up anymore.

I think the only way Toronto makes a push for Stamkos is if they don't win the lottery. They will then be selecting either of the two Finnish wingers or Tkachuk. They will go all in on him if that happens and if the blood clot injury is proven to not be a continuing issue going forward. I'd like to see him go somewhere like Nashville or Arizona, as they have a talented young core that he could help push forward.

The team has been starved for a "face" for too many years now.
And Stammer loves Toronto.
It's done.

Only case he doesn't sign there, IMO, is the 20% shot that Toronto wins draft lottery... which is April 30th... in Toronto.

I would have put the smart money on the Leafs prior to the blood-clot thing. After finally ditching Phaneuf's unmovable contract, they might be gun-shy about acquiring a player that could possibly turn into an albatross.

If they do get Matthews, they may just decide that they're good with Matthews-Kadri as 1-2.
