Guys.. is Brian Elliott the defacto #1 again? I thought Jake Allen was the guy but Elliott returning with a shutout and now starting again against the Sharks. Are they going to roll with the hot hand or did Jake Allen's spell not impress the staff enough and they've turned back to Elliott? What do you guys say? I'm trying to decide which goalie to keep for next week. Thanks!

After another 37 save shut out tonight against San Jose, I expect Elliot will get a few more starts

I expect Elliot will be their go to guy the rest of the season. I don't know what else they would want from him. He has been great all year. He comes back from what I thought was a season ending injury and gets back to back shutouts. This is a no brainer folks. Elliot all the way.

Allen isn't very good especially in last year's playoffs. Elliott is their best option.

They will go with whoever gives them the better chance to advance in the playoffs. Hitch is looking at being fired with another early exit.

Allen is the future there, but they're fixated on the now. You can likely count on it being Elliott barring another injury. (Hopefully no jinx there.)

They'll ride Elliott until: he either gets hurt; or sucks for a game; or with the random start they give Allen he gets a Shutout.

I still think STL wants Allen for the playoffs so they'll have to give him a chance to get going

I expect Elliott would get more leeway than just one bad game. He has a history with that club and he's not going to be discarded for having a bad game. He's not just some typical backup riding a hot-streak.

I also disagree with the premise that they "want Player X for the playoffs", whoever Player X might be. What they want is some playoff success and they're not going to want to go into the the playoffs in the middle of a goalie controversy.

Considering the injury history of both of them, they're likely going to need both for a long playoff run and they're not going to want to jerk either of them around.

I hope it’s Elliot. My goalie situation has been dicey at best all yr. I picked him off the FA while he was hurt and stashed him on IR for like 3 weeks. Kinda forgot about him until I saw the little red box for new news beside his yahoo name. I got the 37save SO to offset my Darling start….

    Hope it’s Elliot.

I think it will be Elliott until he gets hurt, or pooches the bed, what ever comes first. Then it will be Allen until he gets hurt, or pooches the bed, what ever comes first. And then it will be Elliott again until he gets hurt, ...

I think you know where I am going with this.

So I traded Elliott a few weeks ago for Mrazek thinking he would be the 'safer' guy to own down the stretch. Starting to regret that move. *sigh*

That sucks, but I wouldn't worry about it. It was the reasonable move.

Kudos to Elliot. 3 shutouts in a row since coming back from an injury, continuing his great year.
