    The Push - Tommy Caldwell - 9/10

This book basically chronicles the life of one of the best climbers in the world and was super-inspirational. Tommy Caldwell has faced so much adversity in his life from being taken hostage as a teenager on a climbing trip in Kyrgyzstan to losing half of his left index finger, he's had some really rough experiences and has always came out on top. Took this book with me to Dominican a couple of weeks ago and read most of it in the hospital down there with two broken legs while I waited to come back to Canada for surgery. Was the perfect book to have with me at that time as it made my predicament look like nothing.

How to Change Your Mind - Michael Pollan - Ongoing but 8/10 so far
This book is all about the studies and science behind using psychedelics (such as LSD and psilocybin) to treat depression and addiction and encourage consciousness and connectedness. It's quite an interesting read to see about the history of why much of the early studies on mushrooms and LSD were discontinued and how things are just starting to catch up now after being suppressed for years. Quite an eye opener for sure.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

Just Finished "The Anatomy of Fascism" by Robert Paxton. Excellent read, a bit dense but has some scary parallels with today's world (and not the way you'd think off the cuff about it). Really gets into the causes of fascist movements, what factors had to be in place for them to become popular and a viable alternative for the population (truly fascist regimes do not take power through direct force).

    https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...omy_of_Fascism

And now I'm into "The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion" by Jonathan Haidt. The title says it all. Why can't you bring up certain topics (not even taking a stance) without someone shouting you down? Why do some people interpret having a different opinion on something as an act of violence that must be met with hostility? It's something that I think is getting worse and worse, and many people are tiring of it.

Currently I am re-reading Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Sadly the book was released a few years after Toole committed suicide, reconstructed from his working notes by his mother and a fellow writer. It went on to win the Pulitzer prize for fiction.

    My last few books were:

Me Talk Pretty one Day - David Sedaris
Don't get too Confortable - David Rakoff

Both incredible authors if you like subtle humor and short stories.

As well I have been reading some stuff on meditation which I cannot champion enough:

    10% Happier - Dan Harris
Why Buddhism is True - Robert Wright
    Waking up - Sam Harris

    Favourite Authors

    Douglas Adams
    Kurt Vonnegut
    David Sedaris
    David Rakoff
    Sam Harris
    Christopher Hitchens
    Cormac McCarthy

Douglas Adams - brilliant stuff, wish he had a larger bibliography
Kurt Vonnegut - another one of my favourites, SH5 and Sirens of Titan are probably my favourites.
Sam Harris - huge fan of his books, I listen to his podcast a lot, was lucky enough to see him speak live last year (debate with Jordan Peterson)
Christopher Hitchens - Hitch is a legend

Not familiar with the others but I think I've heard of Sedaris.

I keep forgetting to pick up Confederacy of Dunces but I definitely need to add it to my queue.

I'll keep those meditation books in mind as that is something I've been introducing to my life lately. I just downloaded a pretty sweet app for guided meditation called Headspace. Also, I found that "floating" (basically like a sensory deprivation tank) was a great catalyst for meditation as well.

Douglas Adams - Goes without saying! Always loved your username!
kurt Vonnegut - I've only read Slaughterhouse 5 but really enjoyed it and plan to make time to read more of his work.
David Sedaris - He's been an author on my radar for awhile but haven't actually read anything of his yet.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

Hehe. Wonko the Sane aka John Watson. Classic Douglas. Nice catch 4T2

PS. I have been using Sam Harris's Waking Up App for my meditation practice. I have heard Headspace is great as well.

Yes, I have read all of his books as well. Sam is so amazingly poised and well spoken. He is the reason I began dabbling into meditation. If I could even harness a fraction of that poise

I was hoping to catch Sam's debate with Jordan Peterson in Vancouver last year but unfortunately a conflict of interest made it impossible. Hopefully I can see him wax poetic in front of a crowd one day.

Yeah he's quite the force to be reckoned with - the Peterson debates (all four: 2 in Vancouver, 1 in Dublin, 1 in London - more like discussions) are on Youtube of course (second night in Van was better).

    On a classic right now...

To Kill a Mocking Bird... I remember reading this in school.. My god it's a great book. Seriously, one of the best ever.

    Also have

"On Fire" - Naomi Klein on the go. Is there anyone that lays out climate change and the consequences of continuing our current ways better? Or explaining how corporate world is killing us quickly? Not a light read. I take it in spurts. It can depress you and piss you off.

Just finished a few books all somewhat related in time.

Bower- Johnny Bower Biography - he was before my time but still interesting as he’s from my home province and could relate to where he was talking about.

Scotty - Scotty Bowman Bio - quite an interesting story for sure. He was always meant to be a coach.

The Goal of my Life - Paul Henderson story - the stories behind his 72 goal were good and well as the time he spent in the NHL but (and this isn’t meant to sound like it’s and) he goes on to how he found Jesus and whatnot. I was lore interested in the hockey part of his career and skipped those chapters about Jesus and God. I’m not against it by any means as I am Christian, maybe not a fully hardcore practicing one, and just don’t care to read about it.

Did you know that his real name is Joe King, and son of Stephen? Yes, that Stephen.

Agreed, he's a good writer (if I compare to Stephen). I've read NOS4A2 and Heart-Shaped Box, and will be reading The Fireman next.

Seriously, I did not know this. Kind of makes sense now. Thanks for letting me know!
