According to an NHL source, Sami Vatenen wants a 6-yr deal worth $6 mill per. Ducks not doing that now and are listening to trade offers.

I think Vatanen is worth something near that figure. I'd be comfortable signing him at $5,000,000/year for 6. Young defensemen like him are hard to come by.

I dont think he's worth more than $5M per season but as we have seen in recent history, teams are willing to lock up their studs long term if they see the value in them. Anaheim does have the luxury of having depth at this position so it's not like they simply cannot afford to lose him.

We all know he's getting $4M per. Every RFA defenseman gets $4M per.

Seems the surest way to get yourself traded is to requests 6 years at $6M. Both Ladd and Reimer dealt now the Vatman is on the block.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out who would leak that. The Ducks are making a run so it's unlikely Vatanen would want this out there to try and assist getting out. This news isn't going to help his trade value either. Only possibility is another team getting this out there to **** with the Ducks.

I'm pretty sure Vatanen wouldn't leak this out himself as he has no chance at getting traded to Chicago, LA, or Washington.. The 3 teams along with Anaheim that are favored to win the Stanley Cup..

I can't see the Ducks paying him that much with prospects like Theodore and Montour chomping at the bit to take Vatanen's place on the Ducks' blueline.

Detroit could certainly use him, but so too could a team like the Bruins whose most prolific dman on the power play this year is 38-year old Zdeno Chara (32 points as of today) and who have Loui Eriksson as trade bait. Just saying...

I really don't know much about this guy but checked his stats and draft and there was nothing there to suggest this guy is worth over $3 mil. I guess he is very good defensively. Am I missing something?

Remember the whole Ducks team minus Andersen were terrible for the first 20games or whatever.

He’s a possible 50pt D-man (I’m pretty sure his ‘adjusted’ stats say he’s 50pts) who’s not a liability on defense. 6mill x 6yrs isn’t shocking to me he’d ask for that. But 5mill x 6yrs makes more sense.
