Are they trading Horvat too? Otherwise that makes no sense from a Dallas perspective. Promising prospect for a 4/5 dman with an expiring contract? Not to mention Benning hasn't exactly shown an ability to even hit a single on the trade market, let alone a home run.

Flames fan here, All kidding aside, if you're throwing Russell at Dallas, you're probably going to be including a 2nd rd pick + good prospect at a minimum. If I was Dallas, I'd say thanks but we'd like your 2016 1st rd pick straight up for him instead.

I think Hamhuis would be in the package going to Dallas and that Benning is drooling over the idea. Unlikely to occur though.

Nich for Drouin seems doable but still doesn't address their need for a dman

That would be a pretty crazy deal. Dallas would truly be going all in if they did that. But I bet they can afford it. Frankly, I think they should wait until next year before such a move. Give a year of postseason action, see how they do as a team and where they are weak when it matters.

Its funny, Ryan Rishaug was talking earlier today that someone like Yakupov could be on the move and needing a change of scenery. Could be a good deal for both sides.

I have also been a lot of that rumour, but I would bet the Canucks would need to add a young player with lower upside than Nich, like a McCann perhaps? Or maybe a vet like Vrbata + Hamhuis? Especially with the addition of Granlund and the Canucks already having Sedin, Horvat, Sutter, McCann, Granlund down the middle, with a guy like Gaunce ready to make the jump I could see the Granlund deal as a precursor to moving a young C in a larger deal.

Never know, Dallas is a contender and may not want to wait on the potential of a Nich vs upgrading him for a playoff push.

As a Stars fan I'd just as soon keep Nich. I don't see where this works for the Oil, either.
