Playoff Goalie Debate

Im currently sitting one spot out of a playoff spot with only 3 weeks to go. Goalies are Quick and Jones.

Are these two playoff worthy goalies to compete for a championship? If not, which goalies should I attempt to target.. A guy in my league says he's interested in moving Holtby- he's slowly losing steam in the playoff race and likely wants to sell.

Probably would need to give up Jones/plus a forward or high draft pick for Holtby. We are allowed to hold 3 or 4 goalies, but i would need to drop a player form my roster to make room for a 3rd goalie. Best on the waiver wire are Greiss, Hutton, Hellebuyck, Montoya- not the greatest field.

Duos i could possibly face in playoffs are

1) Neuvirth/Crawford
2) Luongo/Lundqvist
3) Price/Anderson/Gibson
4) Rinne/Schneider
5) Mrazek/Elliot/Allen
6) Rask/Varlamov

I don't think Holtby would go for Jones + a player or a pick; its more like he would go for a stud forward + jones if anything.

goal stats are very important in your league at 40% of the categories. Why run only two goalies?

Drop stepniak or campbell immediately and pick up greiss while you see what kind of deal he wants for holtby.

I'd also check playoff schedule to see how many games washington/la an nyi play because that will play a factor.

most likely situation that would happen for a trade would be quick + player or pick for holtby, which will be an upgrade if you don't have to give a stud forward out. Or maybe ship gio out, but doubt that would do it.

If halak is injured or sharing the net (likely), the trio you would have would fare well against an opponent imo, dependent on matchups etc.

You think Holtby is that valuable? I feel like Quick + a player/pick is a overpayment. Not trying to make an argument, but for what reason/s is Holtby so valuable?

Holtby is arguably the most valuable goalie in the league right now. That, plus the scarcity of player of position in combination of the category of coverage makes it cost what it will cost to acquire Holtby.

to put it into perspective, before this season, I made a move for holtby by trading quick and kucherov (quick was a keeper but I did not have room for kucherov). This was quite a juicy offer for the other GM as he also did not think that there was much difference between Holtby and Quick, and Kucherov... well, hes a stud. But I was very pleased with my goalie upgrade.

It is a bit different as it is midseason now, but the other GM won't be looking to give Holtby away. He will be looking to improve his keepers for next year, and in a keep 4, offering up the best goaltender to improve for next year is going to cost you probably something you will not want to give up willingly.

I see. I'll see what i can do on that front. Might be able to squeak out a deal for Holtby before the deadline on Wednesday.

On another note, i posted about a trade i got offered a couple of days ago. What do you think?

I give up Stamkos/Burakovsky/Stepniak/12 and 13 rd draft picks for Voracek/Monahan/Hartnell/Mason/1st/4th/5th rd draft picks.. I would be able to insert Monahan at Center and then place Voracek at RW in front of either hornqvist/Gallagher/Zuccarello.. Draft picks are also nice since I've traded many away this season and will suffer in the draft next year because of that. With this deal my lineup will look stronger moving forward this year, but obviously Stamkos is more valuable than Voracek.

I agree with this - but another factor to keep in mind is that Washington may very well take it easy in the last two weeks of the real regular season (fantasy playoffs), as they may have the presidents trophy locked up by then. This may be concerning to Holtby owners (like me), as he may be rested in advance of the playoffs
