Default Theodore vs Pulock vs Deangelo

Prospect draft coming up this weekend and I will very likely have a shot at one of these three young d-men, who are the only "top 215 prospects" available in our pool. Clearly Dobber ranks Deangelo the highest in terms of offensive upside but I also want to weigh in the following factors:

    1. how soon they make the nhl (I would like the pick to be active in my lineup next year due to a forecasted cap crunch)
    2. peripheral stats: hits, blocks, PIMS, SOG

Theodore is awfully tempting based on what he has done so far in his call-up, which suggests he will make the team full time next year. I hear Pulock is close too but Deangelo is an unknown to me. Based on my criteria who would you choose?

Theodore is maybe the closest to the show.

I have a feeling that Anaheim is going to trade one of their D-Man for a forward and give a spot to Theodore.

Agree that Theodore is the closest and by no means is he a slouch in the attacking zone, but DeA's offensive potential is hard to ignore.

But given you want someone ready next year, go with Theodore.

    Talent
    DeAngelo
    Theodore
    Pulock

    Arrival
    Theodore - this season
    Pulock - 100% next season
    DeAngelo - 50/50 next season

DeAngelo is a shot machine and will take more PIM's than the other two. Like Bottlenecker said, its tough to ignore his upside, if you need a player now/next season - Theodore is the safe pick. If you can wait an additional year DeAngelo should be ready.(unless he gets Yzermaned! )

    I'd go...

    1. Theodore (Safest bet by far and big upside).
    2. DeAngelo (The riskiest but best upside).
    3. Pulock (I'm losing faith in Isles prospects).

Agree with what's been said already.
    1. Theodore
    2. Deangelo
    3. Pulock

Deangelo has the highest upside but the wait is longer and there's no guarantees he'll reach it.

I agree that DeAngelo has the bigger upside, but I'm always wary of small-ish defencemen with big offensive tools and raw defensive abilities. That isn't to say that he can't become great one day, but generally I don't trust NHL coaches on contending teams to allow their small, young defencemen to grow into the position like DeAngelo would have to.

Being slightly risk-averse in this area, I'd take Theodore under pretty much any circumstance except a complete, no-holds-barred rebuild.

    *S. Theodore, S. Gostisbehere, *M. Matheson, J. Trouba
