I think Yzerman needs/wants more than a deadline rental for Drouin.

I would have grave concerns over trading any D of r Drouin. You cannot expect every Dman to pan out. What happens if we trade the one that does and keep the one that doesn't? Our D would continue to suck. There is light at the end of the tunnel now and I would not be willing to give that up for Drouin.

I think so aswell, but sometimes sacrifices need to be made if you want to win the cup..

I'm pretty sure a deal like this would never happen, especially for someone with the potential of Drouin..

Anaheim? They're not in the East and they could likely use a young forward with potential. Silfverberg does not seem to be it. God knows they better do something.

It will be interesting to see what TB would get for Drouin vs. what the Coyotes received for Turris, and to see if Drouin can prove he was the real deal like Turris has finally done these past two seasons.
Ah! This is a much better example than Yakupov. Small prospects who were slow to develop and bounced between the AHL and NHL before demanding a trade. Turris was even more heated if I recall but the same principle. Had to look it up for Turris Arizona got:

David Rundbland and a 2nd round pick. So meh and meh- not awful but Arizona can't certainly claim to have won the trade.

Turris then proceeded to emerge as a top line centre who keeps improving. Now there's a cautionary tale for Yzerman if their ever was one.

Put me in the camp that think Drouin doesn't get traded, at least until the offseason. I think at the start of next season Drouin will still be in the Tampa organization somewhere

The problem was likely keeping him in Tampa as an underaged rather than sending him back to juniors as getting a taste of the NHL with no AHL demotion prob left him with a sense of entitlement.
As much as he's had his ups and downs, it's nice to see how willing Strome was to spend time in Bridgeport.

Drouin has no leverage at all. I think his agent going public was a bad call as I have absolutely no sympathy for him at all. I would be really happy for TB just to sent him to the AHL and make no further comment on it at all. Let him either play well or rot. If he chooses rot, big whoop. He has shown to have poor character... not an elite player. If he plays well, then he might actually be worth something. Either way, TB cannot be seen to giving into a kid's demands. Next thing you know, everyone who doesn't like their ice time is going public with trade demands. I will be very surprised if he is traded.

Another comparison I’ve seen has been Nino Niederreiter. That trade was Niederreiter for Clutterbuck+3rd round pick in 2013. Clutterbuck was a RFA that offseason (trade happened at the draft).

Hard to say who won that one because the “better player” turned into a 35-40pt forward (Nino), but Islanders got 1/3rd of the best 4th line, and a 3rd round pick (Eamon McAdam – Bust).

I'd think they might need to be a little farther up in the standings before they work themselves up into a "We're going for it NOW, damn the torpedoes!" move.

Not a single mention of the Canucks as a rebuilding team?

Vrbata or Hamhuis plus a second and Cassels. Help for a cup run plus futures.

I agree! Unless they make big moves like the Blue Jays and move up the standings crazily like they did!

yzerman isnt going to trade drouin for a rental as the main piece. he already has to deal with potentially losing stamkos for nothing, he isn't going to let that happen to his best prospect. vrbata or hamhuis won't even fetch a 1st at the deadline, maybe if they are lucky it will be a really late 1st. Buff will probably get a late 1st + prospect. drouin is easily worth more than that...he won't get a great/fair return because this went public but it definitely won't be for a rental.
