Worth considering. Although it would basically mean most people would pick two of Canada, USA, Russia and Sweden. With so few games and most teams sharing starts I wonder how much goalie selection predicts overall success.

Perhaps have only one goalie team and double the points? Or even increase the points for a win the further you get into the tournament? Essentially, you're trying to predict the tournament winner as well as have the best fantasy team. I don't know, just brainstorming.

Like I said, it's just an idea and mentioned the challenge is part of the fun, so not bothered either way.

Another thought - why not have a team goalie listed like the captains. I'm sure most would pick Canada USA, SWE or RUS but you could also have two goalies picked for the goalie position. That would spread out the choices as no Canadian goalies could be picked if the team was picked. More brainstorming.

To be completely fair, this usually past years have 3 or 4 clear goalies - last year was Fucale, Demko, Sorokin and Saros picked 10+ times (another 5 picked 2 or less... only 1 of them getting significant points in Soderstrom). The year before that was a majority of Vasilevski, Dansk and Gilles. There are usually only 3 to 5 goalies who are worth picking (those who medal) because of the format, and usually a few of those teams have clear starters (hence why in the 2014 tournament no one went with a Canadian). This year, no one has one true clear starter who better then everyone else from the big medal contenders (well, Canada is the exception, but with Blackwood missing 2 games, it hurts his stock quite a bit). Czechs might have the clearest one in Vanecek, but they're not in great shape to win it all.

The real question is whether this is an anomaly or just the start of a new trend.

If bragging rights include picking a goalie whose name you cannot spell, I can brag about that sober or drunk! Most likely an anomaly, but the playing field was quite level for everybody. Leave as is, my preference if I am to play every year going forward, I enjoyed the quick read about the unknowns before such a great event as the WJC. With 2 goalies, you bet one of them was a "good guess" about a lucky situation, Vegas style.

Just wanted to give a status update.

reeveta has finished making the file and has sent it to me an hour or so ago. I'll put up a first wave of the standings tomorrow morning (Eastern - likely around 9 AM but no guarantees if I decide to sleep some more) with today's results, and another one after tomorrow's games are over (whenever that is - aiming towards 4 to 5 PM Eastern). The file will be attached in both, giving everyone an opportunity to look over their rosters and be sure everything is kosher. If they aren't, send a PM our way and we'll look into it.

Other then that, I'll try updating around the same time-frame (an hour or two after games end), except for working days (for me, that's 29th through 31st, and then the typical MON-FRI in January), where it might be closer to between 5:30 and 7 PM (latest).
